Two Little Feet

Yesterday, I went and did what I normally would have called a self-indulgent thing. Now, I'd just call it a necessity.

I've talked about getting a pedicure for eons, but never actually went through with the deed.

I know people who are actually turned-on by feet, and who am I to judge?  It certainly isn't my thing, but each his own. Or hers, I suppose.

I know people who are incredibly disgusted by feet and think sandals should be outlawed. I'm not one of these people either.

That said, in recent years, while I still wore my Birkenstocks, deep down I hoped no one would look down at my piggies.

With all that knowledge in hand, on a whim - well, a sort of whim - I checked Yelp and found a well rated, yet not pricey, place that specializes in pedicures for men.

Worth. Every. Penny.

The thing with Yelp is, they give the reviews and will say "it was worth the price", but not what said price might be. But I was willing to place crowbar firmly in wallet on this one. I was committed.

I walked in and they said they take walk-ins. I'd hope so, as it seemed I was the only one in the place.

True to semi-stereotypical form, all workers were Korean or Amerasian. The semi part is: they were all male. I wasn't expecting that, even in a spa for men. Two were very handsome, none of those two were the person working on me.  Such is my life.

I said seemingly I was the only one there. During my time - which was not unsubstantial - two guys came out behind closed doors where I saw massage tables. Me?  I sat in a high-backed massage chair with a tub to soak my feet.

The guy alternated between my feet - with only gloves and mask to protect him. I would have expected a full hazmat suit.....and wouldn't have been offended had they pulled one out.  He did the clipping, then the cuticles, then he worked on my stubborn calloused heels. Then I got the foot and leg massage.

Oddly, save one brief moment, I wasn't ticklish at all. One of the cute guys saw me squirm and chuckled at me. Cute guys have done worse to me, so I was ok with it.  But with the massage on the left foot, he hit my fascia.

O.U.C.H.

I was just telling 710 a few days prior, since our deductible is all paid down for 2017, after our summer vacation, I might have the surgery on one foot to ease the pain. In 2018 I'll have the other foot done.  I'm tired of waking up and dreading my feet touching the floor for that first a.m. walk and the pain that comes with it. I can no longer bike or Spin due to the discomfort.  It's time.

Since this is my first pedicure, I have no idea how long the effects will last. All I can say is I couldn't be happier with the results. But this will now be incorporated into some kind of routine. I'll definitely get another before we head to Maine in July.  Sandals will be involved.......along with some judging homos.

I'd give you an 'after' shot of my tootsies, but it would mean little without the 'before'............and not only am I not ever showing you that view, I was never ever ever going to even take a shot of that. I learned my lesson from my wart days.

Of course, me being me, I sat there for that hour (?) and had stray thoughts from the movie, Sisters. This is one of the highlights in 2015-2016 film history.

Tiger

Poor Poor Tiger.

Drunk......or not.

Driving under the influence.  But of what?

We assume booze, don't we?  That's our go-to. But he says 'no', it was pain meds, as if that is more socially acceptable.

Granted, the man has been plagued by surgery and pain and hasn't won a major since 2008, so that could drive a man to take a handful of dolls.

....oh, and to bang, 18-19 skanks while being married. But who am I to judge?

It's his statement to the Jupiter Police Dept that had me laughing - - thanking them for all they did in this situation.....as if that will free him from any liability. I suppose I'd try to butter up the po-po if I were charged too.

Still, if you scroll down the news feed in the attached image, the man killed a zookeeper for chrissake!

Oh well, when you're a 'star' you can get away with anything.

My Music Monday

It's been a theme-less, but new music month.

I've been spotlighting new music I have purchased so far this year. 2017 has not been a sucky year for new releases. Some years are so sparse, it's sad.

I won't go on record saying I've truly been playing the new Depeche Mode a lot. Songs do come through rotation and not only do I not hit 'next', but I might even replay them a few times in a row.

The best of the bunch is "Going Backwards".

Allegedly, the band wrote and recorded everything well before the SCROTUS election. And it's possible. Martin Gore hasn't even copped to it being about 'Murica.  If it's not, then you can certainly read into how it could be.

I think the song says it all when it calls us on our 'cave man mentalities'. It's a fairly accurate way to describe our devolution over the past two years. Longer actually, but dramatically so over the last 24 months.

There were fan videos, and well done ones, but ones that distracted from what I consider 'the message'.

My song and my Pic of the Day aren't coincidences.

Don't Let it Bring You Down

....the blog post title is a lie.

I SO want it to go down.

While Dems (and myself) are loathe to admit it, SCROTUS is seemingly harder to take down than he should be.

He's deflecting things right and left - and by the justice department's own admission, investigations starting now can go on 'well into 2018', which probably won't affect mid-terms as much as we would like.

I am restless that while embattled, Dump will still sail through his presidency wrecking havoc on anything he sees or touches. He's like King Midas.....and we do know he likes his cheesy yellow gold everything.

But if I've learned anything from most movies is that everyone has a vulnerability, something that truly brings them down.

If SCROTUS isn't such a megalomaniacal asshole, he might worry that his behaviour would and could bring down his family.

I am just loving this investigation shit in to Jared Kushner.

Now, if it weren't for nepotism, and Jared were any random staffer, a good administration would have distanced themselves from this kind of problem. But there is that nepotism thing. And there is that lack of a 'good administration' thing.

Hopefully what hurts Jared, hurts his wife. What hurts Ivanka should, in theory, hurt Dump.

That is assuming Dump has any feelings for his own children when his ego and bravado don't get in the way. I would not bet a dime on that. He'd toss them both under the bus if needed. I get that.

What I want to see is the moment Ivanka figures that out.

Oh don't get me wrong. I shan't shed a tear for that vag.

Of course, Jared is too rich for jail time. But I love how the Washington Post has been pursuing this story for weeks, with 'a White House aide' being the focus.  No names, though Kushner has been leaked since day one of those publications.

And while I think he's guilty of something - many things, actually - I still feel this is all a distraction from something even bigger.

the Beast

Saturday.  The perfect antidote to a crazy-assed work week. Shep (and Sophie) are good about helping me destress.

Mr. Shep watches me like a hawk while I cut the lawn. Actually, it looks like he's looking past me....probably at a squirrel.

Meet Up with Kooper and Frankie.

Frankie's brother passed away a few weeks ago and Frankie has been ill, losing over 20 lbs. A new diet has him gaining back three pounds so far.

Frankie is my favourite neighborhood dog.

At the park while we eat.

He sat quietly, never begged.  I don't understand this non-hound behaviour.

The tongue!  The tongue!!!

Warm day, long walk.

Such a handsome beast. He loves the king-sized bed.

One of my faves of him of all time.
Up at Acacia park.

Record of the Month

I figured I'd do a monthly 'what I'm listening to' kind of thing. This could be viewed as a lame placeholder kind of post. And probably it is. But it's my blog! So there!

Blondie has released Pollinator earlier this month - their 11th studio album {I have 'em all, dontcha know}.  The biggest surprise?  I don't hate it.

I don't love love it - but I don't hate it.

To be clear, the 11 albums of which I spoke are original material - not the 291 greatest hits packages they have out there.

I was religious about getting their disks from 1976 to 1982. Then came their inevitable break, then the lawsuits and the new members coming and old ones going. In theory, it was no longer the band I knew and loved.

Sure, the post-Hunter material had good songs here and there.....but mostly there.

There are equal amounts of good and bad with Pollinator. Nothing that would make it onto any of those 291 great hit packages, but nothing nearly as bad as their last disk.

You heard "Fun" here a few weeks back - which was their initial release. I still like the remix better than the 'album' version, but it has grown on me.

If a CD or .mp4s could be broken up into a half of an album, the first half is clearly the stronger material / performance.

The disk opens with a serviceable "Doom or Destiny". It's got Jimmy Destri / 70s keyboard work. Oh, how I miss that.  "Long Time" comes next - which might be the best song on the disk, and their best song since "Maria" from 1999.

"Already Naked" chorus has an earlier Blondie vibe too. And by 'early' I mean later in their popular era. I even kind of like "My Monster".

Debbie Harry was never the strongest vocalist, but the band's song choices always worked in her favour. That isn't always the case here. So a semi-ok voice (at 71 years old!) , the opening of "Too Much" sounds way too processed. The voice (not the vocals) gets better during the rest of the song, but the guitar part seems sooooo out of place.

I can't say I'm a fan of "Gravity". And it's a hard pass on "Love Level".

"Fragments" is like a rejected James Bond theme (unlike their other rejected Bond theme: For Your Eyes Only - - which is actually pretty good). "Fragments goes on for about seven minutes....and almost at the two minute mark completely changes tempo.  It is interesting until it just becomes a fucking mess.  As Eileen Flowers would say: "awful!"

The musicianship on the disk is fair....not outstanding. Clem Burke, who is an excellent drummer, is wasted here, though less so than on Ghost of Downloads. My guess is his skills would overtake the music as it is now.

My biggest regret is that in the download version you don't seem to get the hidden track that features Laurie Anderson. I am hoping that could have been interesting.

I am not sorry I got Pollinator. It won't be in heavy rotation, but I can select certain tracks and add to playlists, but from a start to finish listening session - that won't be happening.

Small Black Box

Oh that cousin of mine - feeding me stories, knowing full well they could end up here.

And why not?

While I've been loving the New York Daily News for its scathing covers of SCROTUS, I still have to remind myself it's only one half step up from the New York Post.

Black Man Receives White Penis Transplant

Poor sap.

I don't mean to play in to racial and sexual stereotypes, but why oh why would you want a puny white man's wang?

Oh sure, some men of colour don't measure up {I've heard} and some white guys exceed the average length {or so I've heard.............and thank you.....thank you very much!}, but why risk it. Why drive a Pinto when you can have an Electra 225? In black, of course.

Now, in the big scheme of things, I like having a penis. But would I require another one should my current one go missing?  It would seem like a levers and pulleys to get it to work under the best circumstances..........no, it does say circumstances, not what you thought it did....and who wants that kind of pressure under not so great conditions.

Oh and can you imagine the gym shower?  I suppose the penile area was the first place Michael Jackson's vitiligo started. Ask Macaulay Culkin or at least one of the Coreys. Still it's hard not to get stares.

hehehe.... I said: 'it's hard'.

This guy has it all figured out though........he's going to get it tattoo'd to match his skin colour.

Ouch.

If you were going to do that, I'd have made them do all the needle work before attaching it to me.

Coming from one who already has a donor bone in him, I can say, it's nice to have, but I wouldn't do it twice, especially if one is elective surgery.  .....and I don't even know if my bone is black, but the way I see it #allbonesmatter.

Secret

Well, there is one thing on which SCROTUS and I can agree: the terrorists are losers.

....except when they're winning. And if Manchester / Belgium / Paris et al are examples: they're winning.

I just don't understand why dozens, or hundreds or more have to die.

SCROTUS said he had a "secret plan" to defeat ISIS in 30 days.

A quick glance at my calendar will tell me he's been in office for 123 days.

What exactly is he waiting for ????

People are dying on his watch because he won't reveal, let alone enact, his "secret plan".

A broken campaign promise??  Say it isn't so!!!!  Isn't that why some of you morons voted for this guy?

--------

Of course, he also campaigned on not touching Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid?  How's that all turning out for you stupid fucks in the red states who are "welching off the system"?

Your idea of a better healthcare system just got shot to shit......assuming this budget passes. Any hospital that accepts Medicare and Medicaid patients  (which is all) will be slashing their own budgets. They'll be doing less with less.  That means those needing care - including your sorry Dump voting asses - will get less and less.  And it will take longer to get.

Lesser Medicaid = more Self Pay, which = No Pay.

Hospitals and doctor's offices don't run on charity. Rent isn't free. Labor isn't volunteer work. Equipment isn't donated.  For those who didn't think healthcare is a right, you win.........and yet you're about to lose.....big time.

--------

No worries though, there are huge tax cuts coming.......if you're wealthy.

This one I don't get.  Why would Dump need big tax cuts when he's not paying any at all??

Asking for It

I don't mean to be horribly insensitive and judgmental - - - or do I ??  - - - but sometimes people get exactly what they deserve.

You know, when the sign right next to you says 'don't feed the sea lions'  and you do?  Well, you get exactly what you deserve.

When you taunt a 300-500 lb wild animal repeatedly and then sit down and turn your back to it?  Well, you get exactly what you deserve.

My favourite was on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt (I think I'm obligated to say all of that), and some guy for the area up in Vancouver (or wherever that took place) ridiculed the family as basically being idiots, equating what they did as taking a lunchbox up to a bear.

Well, I suppose her tiger mom is watching over now, as she completes her college essay while the event is still fresh in her mind.

The other is going to an Ariana Grande concert.

Explosives notwithstanding.......you just had to figure there'd be bombs.   ....and I'm just talking about the music...........am I right?  am I right?

....yeah, I'm right.

Too soon?

Too bad.

My Music Monday

A themeless month - and it is working out ok.  Like I said last week, it's been new music month.....or stuff I recently purchased.

I'm lifting one of the best songs off of the new disk by Aimee Mann.  "Patient Zero" is just a stand out song amongst many on Mental Illness.

The melody and the chorus phrasing are really well done. The verses are pretty good as well.

While the song is not necessarily about Andrew Garfield - the Spiderman actor - according to Mann, it was inspired by him, as she had met him at some party shortly after his arrival to the U.S., but before he landed the superhero role, though the line "with some magic you can fly through the air", makes me believe (if it' truly is about him) that that line came after he was cast as the webslinger.

Mann appears in the video for roughly two seconds and in a non-lip synching role. This isn't a bad thing, as she always looks so uncomfortable in front of the camera. But you'll notice some folks from West Wing, Mad Men and such who make appearances.

Ground Zero

Maybe it's ironic that my title is a Chris Cornell song.

I really have nothing today. I planned nothing. No news stories piqued my interest. No one wants to hear about work (let alone write about it).

I don't know enough Cornell songs to write about the man. I liked some Soundgarden and some Audioslave..........or as Morty called them, Audiosalve.

It's a bummer he died....or killed himself......or accidentally killed himself. That last one is the widow talking.....but I suppose that one cannot collect on his insurance policy if he is deemed to have purposefully killed himself.

Work has been tres busy. Not all fun, but I ended the week ok. In other news, we are trying for a long weekend away before the start of summer, but that means boarding Shep, which just might kill us.

It's all good.  Ok.  I'm off to bed.

....and Justice for All

So Comey - the man the Democrats assumed screwed the pooch with his ill-timed announcement about Hillary. As it turns out - he's an equal opportunity pooch screwer......so that's the silver lining, I suppose.

Yes, I totally get you're all tired of coming hear to read my shit on this, but I look at it as a sliver of documentation of history........not that anyone will be around to read it after the inevitable nuclear annihilation.

Anyway - back to Comey..............and the ever present SCROTUS.

Seems Comey's FBI training did him good. He was smart enough to document everything. Allegedly, the former director created memos for every phone call and meeting he had with SCROTUS. Including trying to influence an investigation into Michael Flynn........allegedly {though we all know it is true, even though Dump's lackeys say it's not}.

I don't believe for a nanosecond that Dump understands, let alone abides by, the separation of powers in this country.

There's a lot he doesn't understand......I'm assuming.  My absolute fave was him asking Comey to consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information.

Reporters?  No.  Sitting Presidents??   ...........sure.  Why the fuck not?

Why isn't Alanis writing a sequel to her 1995 hit. She's got nothing else going on.

Dump though is stupid too.......besides just being arrogant and borderline. Comey's note-taking was a well known thing in DC.  I guess that's the price Dump pays for being "an outsider".  Comey did it in the Bush administration to great effect, and during other investigations where those notes held up in court.

And he covered his bases, giving copies of these memos to FBI folks and outside associates. There is no way for others to cover or bury that.  CYA. And he gave the notes to them real time.....so there is a trail back at least to February. Had they all shown up at once, I agree, he'd have a credibility problem.

So far, the republican leadership is silent. I don't mean SCROTUS. He's never silent.......nor is he a leader.

I almost feel bad for some of the GOPers. Can you imagine having to pseudo-pretend to support this guy publicly and behind closed doors trying to figure out how to operate day-to-day without completely imploding the party?

....hey, I said "almost".

They made their own bed.  You know the rest.

Oh - and I love the guy parks across from the Dump DC Hotel and projects images onto it. It's not vandalism. I can't say he's truly breaking any laws unless he's not putting change in the meters.

Russian Roulette

.....and the hits just keep on comin'.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

One has to wonder, when will enough be enough for this administration......for this Congress...........for this country.

Mind you, I don't know that his base cares that much that SCROTUS shared ally information with the Ruskies. But they're not intelligent enough to understand the implications of anything other than if Two Broke Girls gets cancelled.

I get home from work and come in to see 710 who just points at the TV.  My initial reaction is: 'what now?'  I'm not even 100% sure I rolled my eyes.

I don't think the Washington Post is stupid enough to print something front page, above the fold {I mean, if it were an actual paper and not just a website}.

Of course, the National Security Advisor is downplaying the entire incident while speaking to the press................right outside the oval office.

That makes me feel like it never happened...............not!

I kind of shouted at the TV when news organizations were quoting the minority party.

I don't give a flying fuck what the minority party is saying. I know their reaction without having to read one word of it. Tell me what the majority is yakking about.

One GOPer, who is unfamiliar to me, went rogue and said that the administration (or Dump himself?) was in a downward spiral.  No Shit.

So far, no word from Bitch McConnell......that chinless fuck. But Paul Ryan made a strong statement about wanting a "full explanation" of events.  Of course I kid about the "strong statement" part. He's a pussy. You'd think SCROTUS would want to grab him.

....and Ryan might have to rethink that tweet from last summer.

Alan Dershowitz claims that Dump has "the most serious charge ever made against a sitting president", though contends he probably broke no actual laws.  So then......where does that leave us? You gotta figure it's truly more impeachable than a blowjob.

But of course, impeachment means a Pence presidency.  Eeeeeeeeeek.

What I have not yet heard is how this ties to Comey..............and I just have to feel that it does. What he knew and how he was to be thwarted to say a thing. Until he possibly met a Post reporter in a parking garage????

This whole 2017 is just fucking surreal. If someone wrote this in a shitty movie, it would be playing basic cable two weeks after its disastrous theater release. Unfortunately, this isn't fiction.

It seems Russia has Dump by the short hairs............and he likes it. Almost as much as getting pissed on.

My Music Monday

The theme this month was not intentionally new music, but 3 out of 3 (so far) is just that.

....and this one is brand-spanking new. It was just released this last Friday. Three days ago. That's how new.

I'm a fan of the National.  It will be be almost four and one half years since their last disk by the time their new one, Sleep Well Beast, is released in 3.5 months.  .....so at least I'll have a new disk to review here come mid-September.

"the System Only Dreams in Total Darkness" isn't quite like their past oeuvre. From the beginning, the keyboards, the possible backing vocals, and the guitar work - all new. I'm not sure I was down with it. At the 1:30 mark, their familiar drum style kicks in.

But then the guitar work goes back to that interlude. Admittedly, I like the familiar, but on the other side of that, I don't feel a band should be stagnant just because of their fans - myself included. They need to grow and I need to be open.

"System Only Dreams in Total Darkness" isn't really a sing-a-long song. I'm sure one could, or would, but it doesn't quite have that kind of melody.

I'm opening up to it all. I look forward to the rest of their new disk.............in September.

Love Missile F1-11

Just an FYI - this is how it will probably end.  ....for all of us.

SCROTUS loves nukes. He has said so. A few times.

Let's face it - he only needs an excuse to punch in the nuclear codes.

While I think North Korea and Kim Jong Un is bat-shit crazy, he is less so than Dump. The hair is just as bad, just a different style......and colour. Possibly.  Only their hairdresser knows for sure.

But to potentially taunt CheetoFührer, just yesterday, North Korea has just "test" launched its 7th missile since Dump took office.

This cannot be coincidence.

But to cite two pivotal movies in history, we only need to discuss War Games and Austin Powers. I mean, for this scenario, this is what it comes down to, no?

This isn't 1945.

Yes, we dropped the first two nuclear bombs. People were so shocked and horrified that it ended the Eastern Theater of WWII. But by the time the Cold War rolled around and escalated, and just about anyone and everyone had the means to build and use one, the question was: to what end?

How long can one use those as threats?  Sure you win "the war", but then there's nothing left, so........what do you win?

In Austin Powers, Dr. Evil uses a highjacked nuke to hold the world ransom for $100 Billion. And the world immediately caves. My question - to whom do you return a stolen bomb to once you get the payment?

I guess the bigger question is - if one is so scared of someone else using one, so they use it first, isn't that the definition of flawed logic?

For either Dump or Un the question is moot.........or 'mute' as one of my friends would say {and not in a funny Malaprop way}. They are off-kilter enough to not care, or not understand the consequences.

I liken all of this to those disaster movies 710 LOVES to watch......and that I allow him to, as long as I'm not home.  Be it 2012, Final Impact, the Day After Tomorrow........there are hundreds of millions of people dying but the fight to survive persists.   I'm like.............why?

The fucking last thing I want to do is be amongst hundreds of millions of corpses, that then just become a factory of centuries of disease. Vaporize me immediately please.

So in my own way, I'm trying to enjoy life as it is, because with these two, who the fuck knows. It could be over before any of us realize it might happen.

The War Games reference? Well it's an easy one.

As the WOPR would so prophetically say in its Steven Hawking-like voice: "the only winning move is not to play."

If only Un and SCROTUS were half as smart as the stupid IT guy who tried to unplug the WOPR.

If only!

12 of 12

So I'm doing my 86th 12 of 12.

Normally it is 12 pictures taken on the 12th of the month. Since I only post once per day, you get my images the following day. All pictures taken with my iPhone. Click images to enlarge, if you choose.

Created by Chad Darnell and picked up from, what I can tell, any number of random bloggers who then link back to him and vice versa. Chad is no longer doing this, nor is successor coordinating the linking of other 12 of 12'ers anymore. Now it's just Erik and myself - that I know of.

I still continue to do this, because of all my consistent post topics, I actually like this one the most.

05:20.  War Paint.

.....or moisturizer with 50 SPF

05:50.  Post Morning Walk

Ready for b'fast.  Doggie b'fast.

06:55. Keying into my office.

My work day has begun.

08:52.  Picking up a cake at Corbo's for an exiting physician.

They're over-priced

10:30.  Jesus people. Just get an accurate measurer thingy.

11:25.  Meeting about bronchoscopes......believe it or not.

12:30.  The carnage.

Half a cake down. Half to go.  It was so-so.

14:55.   Hitting my 10k in steps.

16:50. Leaving work. Early!

17:15.  Evening Doggie Walk.

Spring has sprung.

18:15.  Double Date Night.

Anatolia Cafe with 710, David & James.

19:55.  Seeing a play:  Hand to G-d.

It was Hand to G-d Awful.  My opinion.

That's it.  That's my day.
