It was going to be a 'nothing' post today - as the muses seemed to be on PTO, should they exist at all. 

It could have been a weather post, as NE Ohio was just whacky yesterday with wind, torrential rain, lightning, and a temp drop of 30 degrees yesterday. But I just did a weather related post to fill air space not that long ago. 

So, I'll just leave it with this. 

 It seems as logical choice of the dozen the Dept of Defense has given. 

The only reason they haven't given is: Epstein File Diversion.  That would be too on the nose.

I could have written about this for Sunday's post, but my fucking g-d..........I just could not. On multiple levels. 

One - it just pissed me off so bad on the surface. 

Second - I didn't know enough about it. 

710 turned his iPad towards me to show me a headline. Lord knows I wasn't gonna see it in a paper - but sure enough it was all over social media before I turned that off too. 

Third - I know you were all dying to know about a pizza dough recipe I was attempting. 

At least that experience didn't violate multiple laws. At least not outside of a culinary school. 

Naturally, the very first thing that crossed my mind was distraction from BLOTUS' life lately. 

Epstein. Declining Health. Jack Smith testimony. Yam tits and cankles - which could be a decent band name. 

My second concern is his cognitive health - or lack of cognition. He doesn't have the grey matter to pull this off, so exactly who is / are the fuck who is doing a political Lonely Gotherd with this sack of shit? 

Isn't the irony that ICE would deport Maduro to Venezuela??  And he's going to appear (or possibly did) in a NY court room?  What the ever living fuck. Is Venezuela now bound by the 6th district court of Southern NY? 

(for historical purposes, BLOTUS had the United States military invaded Venezuela, capturing sitting Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores - killing more than 80 people in the attack.)

On our Sunday night call Rebecca said the DOJ and Congress are bascially non-existent now and we are in a full blown dictatorship. 

It's so adorable she thinks this is just happening now and not last January 20th. But we all get there in our own time. Except MAGATs.  Of course, they couldn't pick out Venezuela on a map, or even down to a continent, but I suppose I'm nitpicking. 

Actually, I typed 'dictator' into my own blog search box and found any number of posts I wrote during his first term saying we were on the road to dictatorship. 

I've been have tempted to actually click on current news articles and read, but I thought better of it. It'd be rhetoric at best. Lies at second best.  ....and then it just goes downhill from there. 

While 100% useless, I felt the need to get it on record and wrote each of my senators - both GOP lackeys. But I reminded them that their job was usurped for this - and soon there'd be no need for them in this regime. I also mentioned that if any other sitting president in a non-GOP role did this, they'd have their heads. 

I expect a canned response and nothing else. From what little social media I've seen, I have not seen one congressional post condemning any of this. Nor do I expect to. 

I'd say 'same old same old', but in truth, "he" is ratcheting up. 

We. Are. Fucked. 

I say that often, but we are just getting so close to the fuckage. 

.....and to be fair to BLOTUS: no one is talking Epstein these days, are they?

I don't wanna talk about Iran, Israel and the U.S. 

Avoiding the news has been tough in general. It's really difficult when news bulletins pop up on your phone that we are bombing Iran. I suppose there are ways for me to turn off alerts. 

In group chat, one of my friends said they were assuring their kids it wouldn't happen. It never occurred to me BLOTUS wouldn't. 

There are many many many tweets from him about Obama and bombings that are appearing. Naturally, not one single news organization has said 'boo' to him about them, let alone questioned him. 

To be fair, if anyone knows from unskilled, it is BLOTUS. 

The thing is, there was no negotiating with Iran. It was never the plan. It was Israel - and BLOTUS' love for Netanyahu.  

I don't quite recall hearing that BLOTUS got Congressional approval.   Ooops.  

Again, not a beep from any news org, at least US led. 

I believe once can be pro-Israel and anti-Netanyahu. 

Israel is not Netanyahu and Palestine is not Hamas. You're looking at extremes and honestly, Israel could not handle two conflicts without bringing us into the fray. And we are, and footing the bills. 

Iran abandoned their nuclear weapons plan in 2003. Israel, "officially" does not have one, but it is readily known they are currently the only mid-east country with nuclear weapons. No doubt, with help from the U.S.. 

Will this all spark a WWIII?  

Anyone's guess, but it goes back to the movie War Games?   To what end? 

You kill half of all people.............I mean, then what?  You can't really rule something that is going to have fall-out the rest of the time humanity exists. 

Part of me says "bring it".  

But maybe our 22 year old head of Homeland Security's Terrorism Prevention program - including Iranian sleeper cells - will save us.

War Plans

I'd like to say I got nothing, but Pete Hegseth is making that very very difficult. 

One does not have to pick up a paper to see what a fucktard he's been. I do gotta appreciate the Atlantic reporter who just put it all out there about a fucking group text chat regarding war plans on Yemen. 

If I'm being totally honest, I had / have no idea the US had / have any beef with Yemen. See? not reading the news isn't so bad. 

My beef is the fucking social media posts that say: "I don't want to hear one more word about her emails" - in reference to Hilary Clinton's unsecured emails from a decade ago. 

To those posters:  SHUT THE FUCK UP. 

No one - and I mean no one - has brought that up since BLOTUS won 2016. If that is our (read: democrats) best response, it is no wonder we lose so g-damn often. 

Others have mentioned that Hegseth should be fired. In this administration it is almost certain he'll get a promotion out of this. 

It's all just so fucked up and I don't believe this will change one thing. Depressing.

War is hell......am I right, Bruno? 

It is hard to be pro-Jew and pro-Israel at the same time. Israel makes it that way. 

It's tougher when the US provides so much money and weapons to Israel too.  The US makes it that way. 

There is some understanding that we shouldn't be the world's police, but I get helping countries who are truly fight atrocities who don't have the means. Israel are none of these. 

It's doubtful anyone wakes up and sees headline about war declaration anywhere. There was a time Netanyahu seemed like a reasonable leader, but that is all out the window. It has been for some time. 

I get Palestine instigated this latest round, so they're not blameless, but Israel as all but negated Palestine's existence for decades now, most of it with violence. 

I have no good solution here. Clearly, no one does.  But maybe it's time for the US to stop funding ($520 million in defense monies so far in 2023. This isn't chump change. 

Palestine isn't Russia invading the Ukraine. The resources are forever in Israel's favour and they're still kind of dicks about it. 

The world is seemingly at a breaking point. So much strife. And war is profitable. And there's a US election coming up. Sitting presidents LOVE war.

Elon Musk and his dirty looking ex, Grimes (!) had a third kid, possibly after they already parted ways. I assume they probably deserve each other, if only not to inflict themselves on others. 

Musk himself revealed this tidbit and like piranha, the media fed the frenzy...........only to completely drop the story that Musk himself turned off / blocked his satellites, Starlink, to help Russian forces attack the Ukraine. 

And if that doesn't fucking frighten you - it should. I don't give a fuck if you're for either country, but you're not paying attention either. 

One man - ONE MAN - has the ability to control (or help control) a war. One man with seemingly no vested interest in the outcome, clearly has a vested interest in the outcome. 

As if it isn't bad enough entire governments do this, but not "private citizens" that are not even really Blackwater (allegedly). 

War is a money-maker. Ask the folks at Northrop Grumman or Raytheon - who make somewhere in the $25-35 BILLION range per year. Musk is in "it" for the $$$, but I'm not sure what the "it" is. 

Since the media are weaker than shit, we'll never find out. His porking an unbathed electronica "singer" is more news than he helped Russia plan and kill folks in the Ukraine. 

It's bad enough that Starlink's space garbage if fucking up the night time sky, but now it's just become a telecommunications hub for the military - and not ours. And possibly ours.  Or whomever is the highest bidder?

The meme isn't incorrect. 

It seems, with Switzerland's assistance, Russian assets are frozen. 

And it's just not the Swiss. Several Western financial areas have put the kibosh on Russia, their money, their gold, their assets. 

In a complete case of missed irony, Putin & Co. have signed a decree to counter what he called the unfriendly and illegal actions of the U.S. and its allies in regards to banking. 

OMFG.  You cannot make this shit up. 

If you listen to anyone not Russian, their country's entire financial system is on the verge of collapse. They seem to tell you all is fine. I don't really have much (read: any) money tied up in borscht futures, so I think I'm ok. 

I don't know how the Russian army operates, or if they get paid. Will their commitment to the cause falter if the check doesn't clear? 

This is just all fucked up. 

I keep hearing about nuclear arsenal. 

How does THAT end?  

I've seen War Games. The WOPR and Joshua are correct that the only way to win is not to play.  ......but I don't think Vlad has seen that Broderick / Sheedy classic.

Semi-full disclosure.  I might be part Russian. I just don't identify that way. 

Ancestory had me designated as "European Jew". It seemed a fairly broad swath, if you axe me. 

The tale was the family is / was from Bavaria, and that might be true......on my dad's mother's side. But his father's father's father?  It is probable that there is more Polish and Russian lineage. 

Pick a country - in any instance, it didn't end well for the Jews. 

So, I'd rather identify as cis-vague Europe than cis-Russian.  ....even if it's a small percentage of who I might be. 

While I still actively try to avoid as much news as possible, it would be foolish to think one doesn't take note of Russia invading Ukraine. 

I'd ask: how does this even happen?  ....but that's fairly clear:  everyone talks about it about to happen; no one actually does anything.  Oh - except the ever ineffective "sanctions". 

In olden days, countries invaded other countries. At best they had Paul Revere or the telegraph. Very few, if anyone, knew it was about to happen. Sure, allegedly FDR knew that Pearl Harbor was gonna happen, and if true, well he was just a dick warmonger. New Deal, my ass. 

But in these times, it was talked about for weeks, maybe months. Hell, you and I can probably watch troop advance via Gooooooogle Earth.  But with 24/7 news coverage, we all saw it coming. 

I believe, even with Russian troops at the border, Putin claimed there were no plans for invasion. 

Huh? 

Guess just a bunch of troops were out to get their 10,000 steps in - oh, and Putin is highly reliable in terms of sincerity, honesty and ethics. 

I won't play stupid here - I AM stupid here!!  What is the end-game?  Is the idea to take over more land and expand the country? And even if so - why?  Is it to show he has a slightly bigger than average sized penis..........metaphorically speaking. The 'show' part, not the 'penis' part. 

I totally get that I don't understand the evil guy in his lair, headquartered out in hollowed-out volcano. But I really don't understand the ego for need to be president either - because, for the most part even that isn't public service. But ego to invade and kill ?   That is truly beyond my comprehension. 

This doesn't even seem to be military to military-related. I'm seeing pictures of cities bombed, buildings in ruin. 

I'm a fatalist by nature, so that if this turned into WWIII, it would not surprise me in the slightest. But again, to what end? 

I'm guessing there is irony - and actual logic - somewhere here? 

The GOP are the ones that are usually the US war-mongering faction. Butttttttt.............in the last 6-7 years, they also seem to be the tongue-up-the-ass Russian / Putin loving faction. They are really stuck between a rock and an anilingus situation right now. 

Except that they're not. 

They'll put this all on Biden.  If he strikes and sends Russian troops scurrying, it will be how badly we treated Russia.  If he strikes and loses, well.............then he's weak.  If he does nothing........he's weaker.  This is lose-lose-lose for Pappy Joe.  And it's exactly for all the GOP could hope. 

I'm cynical enough to believe this was all set up by GOP/Putin to fuck with the mid-terms and the 2024 election. The timing is perfect for both. And honestly, if true, they're doing a tremendous job.

Powell claims...well, claimed.....past tense, now, he 'regrets' making a case for the Iraq War. He called it a 'blot' on his record.

Wrecking dad's car when you're underage drinking is a 'blot'. Knowingly leading soldiers - whom you used to be in charge of as Joint Chief of Staff - to their death is more than a fucking 'blot'.  The killing of 110,000 (or more!) is your fucking ticket to Hell. 

Powell's faux apologies always rang hollow to me. Of course, he had nothing to fear. There was no tribunal for him or anyone in Shrub's administration. There would be no dishonorable anything. No trial. No jail time. No hanging.  But there should have been. 

I don't give half a fuck if Powell tried to peal himself away from his precious GOP that was tainted with BLOTUS. A war criminal trying to cast dispersions at a traitorous president was downright laughable. BLOTUS - I hate to admit - was right to mock Powell for that as well. 

Covid killed Powell, the reality was, he was 84. I mean..........tick tick tick......

Now the angel of death can come for the rest of them. I won't feel a thing, though I might dance a bit if Cheney bites it.  IF.  I'm not sure he's human to begin with.  And unlike Powell, I'll have no regrets chuckling over their demise. 

btw....the one "good" thing to come out of the Iraq war was this blog. While I didn't hold onto it for a huge length of time, the idea was to use the forum to protest the then soon-to-be start of that war. Ironic I lasted longer than that, but my body count is a LOT less.  It's not zero - just to be clear.

Sorry - he really stepped in it. 

If there were only some way to have known that our exit from Afghanistan would be so messy, cumbersome and fraught with destruction, uprisings and general chaos. 

Ohhhh. Wait. 

Now that I think about it, since my early high school days - the Taliban has been in or around Afghanistan, teaming up with the Russians in the Soviet-Afghan War. 

Shocking that the Taliban was still embedded in that country and ready to take over the second "we" made the announcement of pulling out. 

It's almost as if we didn't have the NSA, CIA or DoD.  ......or a lick of common sense. 

Even this dufus in Ohio had that figured out. 

So the criticism that Pappy Joe is getting from the Republicans, while unfortunate, is somewhat deserved. Mind you - we were in Afghanistan in the first place because of a Republican administration, so......their condemnation only goes so far. 

The U.S. cannot be the police to the world and Afghanistan wasn't ours to be in anyways. It would have been nice to, you know, evacuate our folks before pulling the plug on leaving, but...........the Republicans will play that into the fucking ground - even though they really don't care about brown-coloured refugees from other countries................but they'll pretend like they do through the mid-terms, which is why the Dems will lose those.

That's how far you'd have to look back since I wrote about anything political (other than inferred references in movie reviews about NAZIS!).

I don't know how to phrase this without looking - um...I dunno.......not exactly unpatriotic..... but I kind of hope Iran wins this thing against us. Sorry, "us".

I have seen a billion (I mean, at least!) people posting every tween BLOTUS sent during the Obama administration's time on how Barack would start a war with Iran to get re-elected.

Well, I DO remember the re-election. I do not remember the war. Can someone send me a wiki link or something to that affect?

Of course, I thought about the re-election potential with starting a 'conflict', but I also thought about the timing x 2.

1. Impeachment diversion. Obvi. I mean, the timing couldn't have been better and yet, we barely talk about the impeachment since. I mean, I hear #MoscowMitch is moving forward with trial shit, except that he can't. If the House doesn't move the articles forward, Mitch can sit on his hands with both thumbs firmly planted up his butt.   .......which is what I'm assuming most people in Kentucky do on a daily basis.

I thought the impeachment piece would actually keep BLOTUS from a State of the Union speech, but now he can cry 'war' to a joint session of congress with lots of half standing from the lot. No way he's missing out on that - and it can be THE topic of his speech, not any impeachment talk.

2.  The election. I think this move on Iran this far out from the election could actually hurt BLOTUS in November. Should this continue, should there be more troops and U.S. casualties, well........any USA! USA! USA! sentiment could be done for well before we head to the polls.

Remember at the beginning of the Iraq war, and "we" chided France for not aligning with us, and we got all 'freedom fries' on their ass?  Now imagine the White House finds out we have zero allies to assist and we are on our own because oddly enough, even Boris Johnson isn't as stupid as Tony Blair........at least in this regard. 

All too quietly, a number of people have left the Department of Defense: 5 people in 7 days at the end of December.  You just kind of have to wonder - what did the know and why was it a mass exodus.

I suppose we won't know that for a while. And yet less than 10 months to the election.

What Difference Does it Make

I read very little on the killing of the alleged ISIS leader.

First off, I'm so over the media not pressing BLOTUS for his not ending ISIS completely in 30 days with his "secret plan".  You know, the one where he said he knew more than the generals, but then asked those same generals to provide him options and plans?   Yet no one calls him on that shit.

I certainly didn't see his press "conference".

Ruckiry (not Jon's boss), Jimmy Kimmel (or someone on his staff) did.  They compare Obama's killing of bin Laden speech with BLOTUS' .  It is as funny to watch as it is depressing and disturbing.

That said, I think everyone should watch this - and force-show it to any doufus (is that correct spelling?) who even thinks BLOTUS is remotely intelligent.

Just Be Good to Me

Since I cannot (yet) bring myself to address that three ringed circus we have going on in DC, I figured I could at least rake Ellen DeGeneres over the coals.

She and Shrub were seen at some sportsball event together.  People went apeshit. And then Ellen had to go and and lesbiansplain it to us:

"I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different, and I think that we’ve forgotten that that’s okay that we’re all different."

Oh Ellen, so am I.  There are times I'm a bit frustrated with my Facebook friends. Some of them are deeply in the red - and I don't mean in the profit and loss area, unless you consider they can be morally bankrupt for supporting BLOTUS. 

The difference is, those friends didn't start a war knowingly based on false information, just to get us into a war. And one where 4,000+ US troops died as did 65,000 (!!!!) Afghanis. This goes against moral bankruptcy, it is - and should have been - a war crime.

With BLOTUS in office, I totally get it's easy to think that Bush wasn't that bad. It's tough to remember what a vile piece of shit he was - and I'm sure still is.

I'm with Ellen in the spirit that we are all different and can, and should, understand and discuss that of which we might not agree, but let's face it, there are degrees.  I would almost bet $47 kerjillion dollars, she would not have sat in a skybox watching a Buffalo Bills game with OJ Simpson by her side - and he only killed two people.   .......that we know of!

I'm sorry Ellen, but trying to gloss over this with feel-good-love stuff doesn't cut it this time. It's not boycott material, per se, it nothing else, because I've never actually seen anything but clips of your shows.  It's is a reason to banish your stupid-ass game show.

I'm also cynical enough to think that BLOTUS opted to airstrike Syria Friday night due to a barrage of unflattering press.

WTF is wrong when the pardoning of Scooter Libby is so on the list it barely elicits notice?

No - you got Comey's book snippets being released (which so far are horribly unremarkable). You've got the potential of BLOTUS calling Michael Cohen and potentially exchanging information that should not be discussed. You've got Mueller looking more into Cohen than originally thought.  You got potential payments of $1.6M to some ugly-fuck GOP fund raiser, from Cohen to cover up his impregnating someone he slept with (btw, Stormy's payment was way less - she got ripped off since the guy who fucked her was just as f'ugly). And you got Scott Pruitt caught pretty much in lies about not knowing of raises for his friends and financial ethical issues regarding his travel.

How do you deflect all that in a day?

Oh right. Missiles.        Duh!

Mind you, assuming the attack had nothing to do with changing the narrative, I'm also cynical enough to assume it's so it keeps Syrians in their place, so they don't come to ours - - with that travel ban we have of them.  BLOTUS don't want no Syrian refugees here.......because: bad hombres رجل.

But the Libby story should not be ignored. By his own admission, he doesn't know Libby and has never met him. He was a man who interfered and betrayed the secrets of the our intelligence agency to help support a buffoonish president (though now considered a genius by comparison) and a darker than dark VP. Or as some call it - treason.

As some analysts have said: BLOTUS is sending a message to anyone who might be under investigation for interfering with intelligence or justice agencies (far far far too many to name here, and don't want to pick on just one............Jared!). 

As you know - - pre-BLOTUS mocked Obama (via text, of course) about starting a war with Syria to increase his approval rating.  Irony!

I cannot imagine any scenario where BLOTUS would do something to get my approval.

So, we came out of the Opera movie and sat down to have lunch out - which is a real treat. Usually, we high-tail it back home to be with Shep, but we are trying to reclaim "us" time.  Who knows if that will pan out.

So while 710 goes to use the little boy's room, I check my mobile Facebook only to come upon this blog title image in my friend Glenn's news feed.

It was disconcerting, to say the least.

Now, I was a little stunned, naturally, as I read the announcement before I read his posting, so I thought this was a real thing. As we all know by now..........it wasn't.  I just didn't read further in his posting (though later I made a War Games reference in his comments).

Operationally, this alert system was doomed to fail on so many levels. Forget the fact that to sign into my banking site that I need a password and to answer at least two security questions. But hey - that's only $$$.

I could yak about BLOTUS just playing golf through the entire thing, but did you expect anything else out of the douchenozzle?   (the answer you're looking for is: no.)

My friends Morty and Meredity clearly have read about all of this more than I. The tales of people saying their goodbyes and the associated heartbreak. I saw none of that.

I'm crass I know, but I kind of chuckled at the people running..............to safety.  On an island. Thousands of miles from any land mass. With alleged nuclear warheads headed right toward them.

Clearly, none of these folks saw the Day After, or read anything on Hiroshima, or saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (but you can't blame them for that last one!).

I suppose there is a survival instinct that kicks in, but putting yourself in your bathroom, unless it's lead-lined, seems like delaying the inevitable.........by .0000021 seconds.  And now you have to do it crammed into a place where the last thing you see is the ring around the tub you kept meaning to clean, but hadn't gotten around to.

Me? I'm enough of a fatalist to be the Téa Leoni of Honolulu.  See - there is a Deep Impact (oddly, not a porn title..........probably) reference right there.  I would so rather be put out of my misery immediately than the inevitable giant nuclear rats that survive and come to eat the maimed folks left behind.

I say that of course, until it comes to 710, Shep and Sophie.  I'd probably want to keep them safe, but if not, I want to be with them in the end.

Yes, we dropped the first two nuclear bombs. People were so shocked and horrified that it ended the Eastern Theater of WWII. But by the time the Cold War rolled around and escalated, and just about anyone and everyone had the means to build and use one, the question was: to what end?

How long can one use those as threats?  Sure you win "the war", but then there's nothing left, so........what do you win?

In Austin Powers, Dr. Evil uses a highjacked nuke to hold the world ransom for $100 Billion. And the world immediately caves. My question - to whom do you return a stolen bomb to once you get the payment?

I guess the bigger question is - if one is so scared of someone else using one, so they use it first, isn't that the definition of flawed logic?

For either Dump or Un the question is moot.........or 'mute' as one of my friends would say {and not in a funny Malaprop way}. They are off-kilter enough to not care, or not understand the consequences.

I liken all of this to those disaster movies 710 LOVES to watch......and that I allow him to, as long as I'm not home.  Be it 2012, Final Impact, the Day After Tomorrow........there are hundreds of millions of people dying but the fight to survive persists.   I'm like.............why?

The fucking last thing I want to do is be amongst hundreds of millions of corpses, that then just become a factory of centuries of disease. Vaporize me immediately please.

So in my own way, I'm trying to enjoy life as it is, because with these two, who the fuck knows. It could be over before any of us realize it might happen.

The War Games reference? Well it's an easy one.

As the WOPR would so prophetically say in its Steven Hawking-like voice: "the only winning move is not to play."


If only Un and SCROTUS were half as smart as the stupid IT guy who tried to unplug the WOPR.

Today is the day that all my quasi-religious employees will try to wish me a GOOD Friday.  ....and it's all I can do to not find a way to put them into corrective action as some kind of retribution.

I have two meetings - the last one ends at 12:15p.  My hope is; I get out of work early.  ....that would be an Easter miracle.


And just for shits and giggles, because I don't / can't / won't talk about the largest non-nuclear bomb the United States has ever dropped just got dropped yesterday (at least SCROTUS if fulfilling one of his campaign talking points - he LOVES nukes!)  ......I have an Arrested Development clip.

How Do You Sleep?

Hopefully animal pictures will help us momentarily forget that we are counteracting the gassing of Syrian people by bombing the shit out the same country and people.

Dump was soooooo moved by the pictures of the men, women and children who were affected by said gas attack - the same ones he enacted the two failed travel bans against - that he just had to take matters into his own hand and let loose his destruction. The same kind of action he warned Obama not to do.

If there is such a thing as double or triple irony, this guy has it.

Now we'll watch SCRTOUS' approval rating surge from 35% to 38%.

Until then, we can watch Shep's approval rating skyrocket from 99.6% to 99.9% (3% margin or error............NOT!)

Sorry, no Soph this week.

Chelsea Morning

I suppose if I was as big of a bleeding heart liberal as I think I am, I'd be jumping up and down for Obama's commuting of Chelsea Manning's sentence.

Yet, jumping I'm not.

I didn't even mutter or think "oh, good".

I am torn on what Manning did as being admirable or whistleblower as opposed to treasonous. The reality it, war is a dirty business (yes, a business). It's not pretty, it's not fair - and the reality is, Manning couldn't possibly know what she released may have had bigger implications than she could possibly fathom.

I agree with Obama that Manning's sentence was excessive.

And while I seemingly gravitate towards the queer blogs, the people who are / were for Manning's leniency always brought up the transgender aspect. As if that was some kind of a free pass or a special accommodation for the circumstances for which she was charged.

That's where my bleeding heart stops pumping.

If we - as queer folk - want equal rights and not special rights, it goes with all the territory, though I don't think her sexual identity was the reason for her excessive sentence.

There is also that Julian Assange connection. That guy is a creep of creeps - who may or may not have truly contributed to the 2016 election. So that's still unforgivable. Assange did say he'd waive extradition if Obama pardoned Manning. I bet commuting the sentence does not count and he'll live forever in the Venezuelan embassy.

It seems my views have not changed a lot in the last 3.5 years.

Am I glad Manning is getting out early?  Yes, but due to harsh sentencing. Do I think she should have never been in prison in the first place?  I'm going with a 'no' on that one.

There is Dump Talk about rescinding Obama's commutation, but we'll see.  This "man" has such big fish to fry - this seems piddly. But the "man" is all about piddly. He has no vision on those bigger issues.
