Wednesday, as we were having dinner, I couldn't help but notice a partial view of a cloud to the east of us. Even with the limited view - stupid houses blocking it - the thing seemed enormous. And bright.
Shortly thereafter, my nephew-in-law (is that a thing?) texted the title image.
He and my niece live about 2-3 miles from us, so they saw the same thing - albeit I'm sure the cloud changed a bit, but you get the idea.
The thing was formidable and kind of an awesome sight.
I didn't think it was a storm cloud. Just a big summertime one, but later weather outlets defined it as a cumulonimbus cloud - or one that are capable of producing lightning and other dangerous severe weather, such as tornadoes, hazardous winds, and large hailstones.
As far as I know, neither of us saw any of that. 12 hours later we'd get a pre-dawn t-storm which was cool, but nothing major.
Still, what little I looked at social media yesterday, there were tons of people who saw the same thing.
Quite impressive.
There wasn't to be a tie-in to this above post, but as I was drafting, there were multiple NWS warnings coming across my phone.
I'm putting this post to bed before we lose power. And I'm 95.4% sure we WILL lose power.
And I'll take my chances, but my crippled ass is not getting into the basement.

When I was a boy if I saw clouds like that I would stand outside with arms up in the air as if I was conducting the sky.
