My Music Monday

No one more than myself is surprised at today's selection:  Mark Ronson featuring Miley Cyrus.

I'm not really a fan of either artist. Ronson probably has more qualities, as he produced Amy Winehouse's second and last album. I'm not 100% sure of what his actual collaboration-part was of "Uptown Funk", but it was on his album, not Bruno Mars'.

The same is true for today's song, "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart".

I have no idea who actually gets songwriting credit on it, but I hope Dolly Parton is making bank, as there are some similarities to her "Jolene".

The Jolene aspect might actually be the draw to this song for me. I'm not that big of a fan of Parton's version but do LOVE Mindy Smith's take. Still the fusion of country and dance-like tempo is curious, and not in a bad way.

Cyrus doesn't have a voice that draws me in, but unlike her contemporaries, it's not full-on auto tune either. And the song - the chorus - has a cadence that is a little off-beat but in a good way. I'll assume that is a Ronson-ism.

The song is nothing I'd purchase, but if I ever listened to the radio and it came on, I probably wouldn't turn it off.

I’m kinda loving it. With regards to ‘Jolene’, my favourite version is from a joint effort of a Dutch country singer and a German country/rock band: https://youtu.be/OdsHb7mnD-Q
