Cookie mentioned in his blog that he hates the Little Drummer Boy, which isn't a huge stretch for anyone. But I did urge him to view Grace Jones doing her version on Pee Wee's special - and which I featured here ten years ago.
While I've been familiar with Sting's "Gabriel's Message" since the mid-80s, I had never heard any variation of it before that. The song itself dates back to the 13th century, so, you gotta figure someone other than the castrati covered it.
Sting-a-ling-a-ding-dong does a nice version with multiple vocal tracks (all his) and the likes. It's not radio fare, well, except maybe for the round-the-clock holiday stations. The chances of squeezing it in between Pariah Carey, Paul McCartney, Burl Ives and Wham seem unrealistic.
The title suggests a religious bent, something you don't get with Frosty, Rudolph or the Grinch. 'Tis the season and all. Honestly, I like the tune, but haven't really spent a lot of time listening to the words.

Both the Sting and Grace Jones clips had somehow bypassed me. Both well worth seeing, if only at least once. So 'ta'.
