My Music Monday

It is difficult to believe that German isn't one of the Romance Languages. I mean, it's such a warm and friendly accent. It just woos you in and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.

Sure, I could have done a song by Nena or Falco, but then I'd have to listen to those songs and that just didn't seem fair to me!

To hell with all of you.  What about ME?????

Actually, the plan was for me to use the Beatles' "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand", which I swear I heard before I ever heard the British version. It's actually quite brilliant.

And oddly, so is the German version of Peter Gabriel's "Shock the Monkey", or as it is known there, "Schock den Affen".

If any artists was made for translating English to German, it is probably Gabriel. Many of his songs seem more natural in a Germanic style than in his native tongue. And his video for "Shock the Monkey" seems totally Teutonic.

I remember in the early days of MTV, I swear I saw the German version of the song paired with Gabriel's standard music video, if it actually exists (I might have been drunk), I cannot find it anywhere.

So you get some shitty fan-made version, but the song still shines through.

This actually led me down the YouTube rabbit hole of a lot of his German stuffs. I had no idea he had done so many.
