My Music Monday

Today's selection is the Stone Poneys (that never looks correct) cover of Michael Nesmith's "Different Drum".

Linda Ronstadt was the singer along with two other dudes, one being Kenny Edwards, who would do a lot of album work with others over the years.

How the band played this song was much more folky than you've normally heard. The long standing story is that Ronstadt was called in to rerecord it after record execs didn't like it. Only when she got there, the band wasn't.  And the arrangement was different.

You can easily find the original version on YouTube, but you can also find a version of Raquel Welch doing the song in the USO - go-go boots and all.

Honestly, until the other day, I didn't even notice on this song there is orchestration - strings and such. It's amazing what one looks over now and again. The performance is strong though, especially for Ronstadt's debut

listen to this version, then papa nez's version; sounds like 2 different songs.
