Peanut Butter Jelly Time

I missed it.  Kind of.

Yesterday was National Sandwich Day.  And it was so perfect, since I had a sandwich for lunch!!!!

But you know, I've fallen into such a routine when I work from home, that I almost always have a sandwich for lunch.  And it is always peanut butter and jelly.

I may have mentioned that growing up, I never had a hot lunch program in school.  Not that I cared.  For 12 years, I was happy to have PBJ for lunch......every fucking day.

The difference between then and now is that today's sammiches aren't as good as back in the day.  For a PBJ to be really good, it needed to sit in a locker for 4 hours under and orange which would get the jelly to almost seep through the white bread, but not quite.

Now I make them for instant gratification.  There is no sandwich bag.  There is no brown paper lunch sack. There is not locker or orange.  There isn't even white bread as now it is full on wheat.

It is odd, but I don't really tire of peanut butter.  It is a great invention. Thanks George Washington Carver!

And I've never been big on change when it comes to lunch stuff.  When I was working downtown I got the same sandwich almost every single day.  The ladies of the place would see me - we'd both nod knowingly that I was coming to get my daily.  I once threw them off by changing my order and chaos happened.  ...and the new choice turned out to be a bad one.  HORRIBLE meal.   Lesson learned.

It's probably not a bad thing that I travel.  It gets me out of my routine, as I don't have peanut butter and jelly on the road.  It is hard to get past TSA, especially the knives I need to spread that stuff onto the bread I also won't have.

Now only 364 more days until the next National Sandwich Day.  And only a few more hours until my next PBJ.

super chunky pb and all-fruit spread on wheat or other whole grain bread for me. OM NOM NOM!

PS - word is "ingear", as in "I better get my ass ingear and go to work!"

Being a purist, I insist on peanut butter alone. We grew up broke, and PB was often the only thing around to eat. I still love it, although these days it's mostly on graham crackers.

Tomorrow is National Gunpowder Day.

Just a heads up so you can plan ahead this time....

I can not remember when I last had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. There is a childhood memory.

For me, EVERY day is national sandwich day. Because I eat a sandwich of some sort every day.
