Oh where to start I've already done three....and now two more, including today.
There is a difference between something that makes one cringe and something that one might loathe. We did the latter a few months back.
Plenty of songs are out there that make one wince a little.
In the U.S. the Cardigans broke-out with their song "Lovefool". It's slightly catchy, but slightly annoying. The bubble-gum melody and the cutesy-girl vocals should be left to (and with) Gwen Stefani's solo crap. It's not appealing.
The "joke" is, that neither the band, nor singer Nina Persson, seem really to be that group. Their subsequent sound was harder edged, and when they did pop, it was not saccharine-y. Perhaps they were smart enough to know that this was the stuff that got on radio and MTV and they took a dive for the bigger cause.
"Lovefool" is one of those songs that I don't immediately turn off, but I don't go out of my way to play.

There was always something about this song I liked, but I could never put my finger on what it was... and still can't.
