My Music Monday

Technically, today's selection is a cover of a cover.  It's just that there was a never truly a popular version to decide to record another version.

Betty Harris recorded "Trouble with My Lover", an Allen  back in 1968.  Maria Muldar (yes, the "Midnight at the Oasis lady) in 1994.

It has been resurrected by Robert Plant & Alison Krauss.

Allen Toussaint (who produced "Lady Marmalade" for LaBelle) wrote the song, and Plant & Krauss covered another one of his songs 14 years ago on their first release.

"Trouble with My Lover" is a highlight for their new disk. Actually, this live version from Steven Colbert's show is close to, but better than, the recorded version.

I sit in awe and try to figure out how Krauss sings as she does.  She's the star here, maybe right behind the band. Plant never over-reaches and his backing vocals are just that.
