My Music Monday

The last of the cringe-worthy posts.  I'm not quite sorry to see it go, though I had a number of more in-line had the month gone longer.

Bernard Sumner. Johnny Marr. Neil Tennant. Chris Lowe. Together.

What could possibly go wrong?

It was a four-song cd single. Actually, it was one song with multiple mixes:  "Getting Away With It" by the newly formed group, Electronic.

The problem with having Neil Tennant as your vocalist is that no matter what you do, you're just going to be the Pet Shop Boys.

Electronic went on with Sumner and Marr, but Tennant was only on two or three songs. With Sumner doing vocals, Electronic seemed to be New Order 2.0 - not that I'm complaining.

I as intrigued by "Getting Away With It", but it was 1991 and I spent a lot of that time inebriated.

In theory it is a good song. I like the New Order element (it doesn't really have a Smiths element, even with Johnny Marr). When it comes down to it, not only do I only end up hearing mostly Pet Shop Boys with this, I can easily - easily !!!! - break into an Ethel Merman rendition of this, as Mr. Tennant makes it a very easy transition.

There are way better Electronic songs, and while I embraced the song as a drunken young adult, I still slightly cringe when it rotates through.
