My Music Monday

I'm in a Dr. Horrible mood today. The question was - which mood?

If you are not familiar with Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, you should be.  You could always take Rebecca Flowers' writing class where she forces has her students to write a paper on it.

Hell - why not?  If she's got to read those things, she may as well make it easier on herself, right?

I hadn't watched Dr. H for a while now, but on my last trip to Vegas, I watched all three episodes - again!  I still really enjoy it.

Dr. Horrible is the brainchild of Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse and Firefly.  He wrote, shot and released the three-part series during a long-going writer's strike where no shows were actually being created or on TV, his livelihood.

Whedon wrote the script and along with his brother, wrote the songs as well.

While Doogie Houser stars as the title character, many folks from Buffy, Firefly and/or Dollhouse appear in this musical:  Nathan Fillion, Felicia Day and show producers/directors/writers Marti Noxon and David Fury all worked with him in the past.  You might notice that sidekick, Moist, now stars in the Big Bang Theory.

I won't blow the plot for you - and really, all three episodes add up to about 41 minutes, so you're not going to invest a ton of time into this - so watch it already.  But they are 41 minutes I have watched over and over.  The music is decent and even Day's somewhat limited voice works well against NPH's.

I'm not sure I have a favourite song from the series, but "Brand New Day" ranks high and it is one of the few that includes all the main characters singing.  The two news folks are the aforementioned Marti and David - non performers who chip in for Whedon's side project.

Of course, I dig the three fans of Captain Hammer.  They make me laugh.

I loved Dr. Horrible and all of Joss’s work a lot. Firefly is one of my all time favorite shows.

FOUR SWEATER VESTS!

My favorite lines:

Penny will see the evil me, not a dork not a joke not a failure...

And she may cry, but her tears will dry when I hand her the keys to a shiny new Australia...
