Carry That Weight

I've been pretty up front with my quest for a better body through exercise. I have also been pretty up front with this would-be better body being achieved without the use of diet, since I do not know truly how to regulate myself without the use of white flour, white starch and white sugar.

Clarification: I choose not to regulate myself this way.

It's not that I'm dozens of pounds overweight, I'm right below the border of my BMI saying I'm "overweight". I still find it hard to fathom that 185 at 6'2" is considered above the healthy level.

Yes, it doesn't account for waist size or activity level, but I figure if I can control my tonage, the actual work I do at the gym will look better.

I told you before, the gym is mostly about vanity for me. I'm good with that. If it makes me healthier, so be it.

That all being said, I have made better choices: more fruit, more granola, less candy. I'm not giving up cookies or booze. No way, no how.

And just to try regulating other things - I am trying tried Activia. No, I'm not an alleged hermaphrodite who starred in some teen horror movies, or ones with Ah-nuld or Lindsay Lohan. Nor do I like yogurt. So I am kind of 0 for 2.

I tried yogurt once before, back in high school. Yes, way back then. Dannon. Cherry. The container said "watch out for pits". Oh, those clever marketers.

Actually, not so funny when I did get one, bit down on it (unknowingly) and practically broke a tooth. Turned me off of the stuff for three decades. Oh, and I didn't care for the taste.

I figured it couldn't hurt to try it again for the yogurt properties and the probiotic stuff.

There's only one problem: it's rancid.

Before any of you pervs say anything pervy - I already know what this looks like, on multiple levels, so you can keep it to yourselves or have off-line conversations.

I figured how wrong could I go with a vanilla bean flavour. Apparently, VERY!

It smelled worse than it tasted, and yes, the consistency was not all that pleasant either. For it to make an impact you're supposed to eat it for two weeks. That is so not going happen.

I will say that I completed the one I brought to work, but the other three that are sitting in the fridge can go to spackle the walls or grout the floor. ...except then the room would be stuck with that smell.

I guess Denton can eat it, but I ain't gonna. I'll find another way to eat healthier, but this isn't going to be the way.

Yeah, that's pretty much my expression when it comes to yogurt. How can people eat that stuff?

I'm on my own campaign to reach a healthy weight again, and I do it by eating everything I like, but to count the calories and stop at 1200 to 1500 a day. I have to eat better just to stay at that calorie level, but I don't have to exclude the treats. It's worked before, so it will work again if I stay intentional about what I eat. And that's the trick.

I don't know if this will help or not but my very first blog was on how I lost the weight. I call it "Becoming Twice The Man I Was While Becoming Half The Man I Am". You might find some of the info useful. Check it out, here's a link...

It has put that Monty Python Spam song "Spam, Spam, Spam" in my head. Did you notice Conan in Jeggings last night, you are so ahead of the curve on that one.

There are other ways, besides yogurt, to get probiotics into your system....

Yup -- pretty much my view on yoghurt too, but I also have a rule about eating things that are more alive than I am.

I like yogurt, but not all of them. Some are terrible. I didn't eat it for a while because I had some organic yogurt that was horrific.
When I was a kid, I would mix chocolate syrup into vanilla yogurt. It wasn't all that good.

I love yogurt... but only the berry flavors. I prefer strawberry or Strawberry/banana. Blueberry is also good.

Give those a whirl.

I can relate. Although, I'm trying to get myself to the gym more frequently so I don't have to curtail my diet as severely.

If undie monday is accurate, there is no way you are overweight. No way at all. I adore yoghurt.

You killed my comment, you know> I can't believe that 185 is considered big for 6-2. I'm 6-3 and fluctuate between 180 and 195 and I always feel skinny.
