My Music Monday

Back in the mid-90s there were far far far too many bands that sounded far far far too similar.  You know the type - Big Head Tood, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Gin Blossoms, the list could go on and on and on.

I'm sure the 60s, 70s and 80s had the same problem. So it's no surprise that the trend continues.

I don't know if it's a cultural thing or a business one:  let's fast track our success by sounding like someone else who already carved a way with this sound.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  And I'm not current enough in today's music to know who the originators might be and who are the followers.  I do know with Alt Rock station on Sirius XM, I hear like-minded songs from groups like Nothing But Thieves and Joywave.

Sir Sly doesn't branch off much of those last two - and it works. I don't know anything about the rest of their music, and truth be told, while I keep this on in the car, it hasn't made enough of an impact to make me want to take a deeper dive into their oeuvre.

I’ve never heard them before so thanks for the intro. I’m going to look up their other stuff.
