My Music Monday

Has Zach Braff released another movie and not told anyone?

Maybe he's just compiling future soundtracks for potential movies?

I'm listening to Family of the Year's song, "Hero" and it really could be pulled from Braff's film, Garden State.  It is an eerie cross between a Shins and Nick Drake song.

I'm not saying that it is bad - it's just weirdly familiar.

Actually, we heard the song originally during Boyhood, I'm thinking near the closing of the film.

Admittedly, I know next to nothing about Family of the Year. We also heard "Hero" during the closing credits of the season finale of Girls. So it seems like a thing with which to close a movie or a show.

710 was taken enough with the tune to download the entire album (a minor $6.99 purchase for 10 songs - cheap!).

Maybe it sounds familiar because of Boyhood and Girls. But I still think it reeks of emo-rock, ala Braff.

They might not make a dime of their album, but with a major movie release and some HBO money thrown their way, they may have made bank in 2014 and '15.

Admitted, I have yet to listen to the album, but I'm sure it will rotate through at some point.

So sit back and let your mind wander with some non-threatening, pleasant background music plays.

A couple others that I could see in a Braff vehicle: Real Estate's "It's Real" and Blind Pilot's "3 Rounds and a Sound".

It sounds very much like a Starbuck's song of the day...
