Vote, Baby Vote

Oh, thank g-d for the absentee ballot.

Never knowing if I'm going to be in town, so I use it all the time anymore. It was 2006 since I've been to my actual polling place. I don't plan on going back there. Ever.

Normally, I'd say I always vote, but somehow, I skipped this last primary. No biggie, it's not like any of the candidates I considered were in danger of losing. They didn't.

The general election? Well, that's a different story and they might all be in trouble. At least the big ones: governor and senate. I can be hopeful, but I'm not really sure hope is gonna help them pull through.

Either way, I'm glad the election cycle is almost over for a year, or two. I'm considering ditching our land line, if for nothing else, to avoid those fucking robo-calls. I started telling the live ones, that no matter who they are that I'm not voting for their candidate just because of the calls. I'm tired of being inundated and nothing their ads say or lie about change my mind or influences my vote. I pity the uninformed voter who gets swayed by that shit. But welcome to what I'm considering is the majority voting public.....especially this year.

I also know I'm the unpopular gay in the blogosphere: I'm still pro-Obama.

All these guys who are so over his ass on DADT. This is so not the biggest issue we have out there - gay or any other. Oh no - less than two years in and he hasn't overturned DADT!!!! Like any of these guys are going out to enlist when it does get overturned. (Yes, I know that's not the point, but my g-d, they act like they're personally being held back.)
The economy, fighting off the far right fringe...which is no longer fringe...., healthcare, housing and energy are all ahead of DADT. As gay rights go, there are bigger ones to be concerned about (for me) that don't have to do with military service. But these aren't Obama's issues, as he stated pre-election his stance.

So these same bloggers and media folks who started being down on Obama three months after taking office for this huge "betrayal", who say they won't vote for him again (you know, because Palin, Romney, or the like are the better alternative), are now saying we need to vote for the democrats so the real enemy doesn't come into power. Duh, you stupid fucks. You're a little too late for that train, and you really can't have it both ways.

These folks (yes, I'm including you, Michengelo Signorile) have pushed along their agenda to help create and sustain the discontented gay voter and now in the last week or two, oh I don't know, now finally see that those crazy unelectable tea-baggers are now very very electable.

I'm not kidding myself, starting November 3rd, they'll be back on the anti-Obama bandwagon. That's certainly their right. They are pushing for Hillary in '12, which I wanted in 2008, but how did Kennedy challenging a sitting President in 1980 turn out for the Dems? Oh yeah - that's right, 12 years of Republican leadership. Goooood job!

And getting a 3rd viable political party for 2012 isn't going to happen. Even if it did, they have to take voters away from the two main ones, instead of just splitting one party - let's face it, if they don't, it just makes one party electable - and that is way more frightening than not giving homo's guns and camouflage.

This video, totally lifted from Curtis, succinctly sums up many of the reasons I'll vote with the Democrats.

I'm with you on this, but I think we can both Support Obama and the Democratic party and still hold them to the fire for advancing LGBT civil rights and equality advancements as they promised they would make happen. It's not an either or situation. But the bottom line is, we can't hand our country over to the people that have systematically been destroying it up until now and blocked every attempt to repair it because of a political snit, disregarding the needs of the people they serve. GLBT equality is not less important, it is equally important, but not having it yet is not a reason to turn our backs on the closest thing we have to an ally, no matter how weak, and hand power over to the "enemy" that will ensure health care, housing, education, retirement and equality for all never happens.

Great post Blobby. These are the kind of substantive, thought-provoking posts I love from you most. Well done.

I'd like to echo Sean's comment, and also add that I'm not aware of any gay blogger who has turned anti-Obama. That would be insane, even for us fickle homos.

Pressing him and his administration to work on gay civil rights issues does not mean we're anti-Obama, nor does it mean we are single-issue voters. It just means gay rights are important to us and we want the President to recognize that.

Greg and I are voting tomorrow. Wednesday and Thursday will be the media's analysis, then on Friday the 2012 Presidential campaigns commence! Yay!!! NOT

We've been voting by Mail here in Oregon for years. I love it!

As for Obama, I'm still there....hoping, wishing, dreaming. He started with a huge mess and I don't really think it's gotten too much better. But I don't think that two years is nearly enough time considering what he was handed by the Red Group. Now, if only we could go back and bank all of those millions/billions that Clinton left with this nation.......

I love absentee ballots; they give me time to research and think about the issues; no fuss and no cranky poll people.

SO glad I don't get the robocalls. After reading this statistic yesterday, I'm not hopeful for a sane outcome.

49% of the US adult population cannot correctly answer the following question: How long does it take for the earth to complete one revolution around the sun.

Word ver: spaterm (why does it sound so dirty?)
