My Music Monday

You know, I do a holiday music post around, well, the holiday. It's my one nod to the season that way. I don't pick anything too religious. And I don't pick Paul McCartney (wonderful xmas time), Pariah Carey or Billy Squire.  Those are about the extent of my rules.

Everything else is fair game.  Well............within reason.

For the fucking life of me, I cannot fathom how I haven't done one of the best ever: the Pretenders' "2000 Miles".

I suppose the 2000 is closer to Jebus years than a measurement of distance. Or that Chrissie Hynde just fucking with me.

This is the Pretenders 2.0. By the time their album, Learning to Crawl, was recorded (that contained this song), James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon had offed themselves - by accident (allegedly) with heroin. Separate instances.

Considering the circumstances of the new band, the albums is pretty flawless, including this light track.

I just LOATHE that Paul McC Xmas song with a passion - every bit as much as I do that Mimi Carey which gets trotted out over and over ad beyond nauseam (though in her case it's everything she ever did!). But that Paul song came out of an era when he thought that every single song he ever wrote, because it was his, must therefore be a work of genius - and he's still never quite shaken off that piece of supreme arrogance - and it's such a half-baked, incomplete song of whatever-comes-to-mind thoughts stitched together hopelessly poorly. Bah humbug! BIG TIME!!!! (Am I feeling better now? Just a very teeny bit).

Following your lead, I've started a Music Monday post on my Facebook page and it's turned out to be a hit. I try to post newer artists (I began with Orville Peck, my latest obsession!) and songs. For today, I posted Maclemore's "It's Christmas Time".

Macklemore: I wanna write a Christmas song about my dead dog, Toby.
Record Company: Um...

It's actually really good and I hope it gets added to the repertoire of songs played this time of year.
