My Music Monday

Everything old is new again.

These last years have seen releases by bands such as Psychedelic Furs, Berlin, the Zombies, Steve Perry and Missing Persons - to name a few.

...and now A Flock of Seagulls.

My surprise isn't that the band is putting out new material. My surprise isn't that their new song, "Some Dreams", is their first release since 2018 (and 1995 before that)

My surprise is they had anything on record after 1984.

Yes, everyone knows from for "I Ran", which doesn't suck, but they hooked me with "Wishing". It's one of those perfectly crafted singles. But if they had another album after their second - I was completely unaware, as was U.S. radio. And possibly their management.

Gone are their hair-dos.........and actually, their hair. Aren't your 60s great, gents?  Actually, singer / keyboardist Mike Score is the only original member of the band still in place. Everyone else is from the 20-teens. Probably not even born during AFOS' peak.

The song itself isn't bad, but it's hardly original, even for them. Especially for them. The title is far far far too repetitive. The backbeat and the guitar are pulled from every popular song they had, so in a way it has a certain nostalgic ring.

Here's hoping they do a little better in their material though.
