It's '80s music time again - but it mostly always is. But it is late '80s, actually crossing over to '90s, so I'm progressing a little bit.
After the demise of Bauhaus, I didn't even know Peter Murphy put out solo albums until my neighbor, Slusser (that bastard owes me $20!!), played me his first solo disk. A fairly brilliant disk at that.
The song, "Cuts You Up" has played over and over these last two decades on either cassettes, CDs or various iPods and iPhones since. I'd say it is a stellar piece of work, but I'm sure that is over-selling it and possibly only one man's opinion.
The song didn't make the Top 40 here, but hell, I was surprised to find out it made the Hot 100 (#55). I don't even remember it on Columbus' alternative radio station.
Until looking on YouTube, I didn't know the song had an accompanying video. It stands to reason that it did, but I never had seen it. Full of late '80s video cliches, ensuring it would at least get played on MTV's 120 minutes (you know - 2 hours a week they played shit other than Run DMC with Aerosmith).
Murphy ain't nothing to look at. A weirdly angular face and one that wouldn't be out of place on one of the 734 vampire shows or movies that are continually in rotation on TV or at your local movie cineplex.
I'll stick to the song and try to purge the visual....because it's still a great song.

I was always partial to "Indigo Eyes" more than "Cuts You Up". But it never made the Top 100 here in the US.
