My Music Monday

Time for another male artist. I tend to skew more towards female artists in my collections and music posts, so I'm trying to make sure I mix it up a bit.

I'd say I'm going a bit off-track with this selection, but I'm not sure I have a track.

Robbie Robertson, if you know him, was a member of The Band, made famous for their song "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and even more famous by their farewell concert, The Last Waltz, which was made into a Martin Scorcese film of the same name.

Robertson went on to score a number of Scorcese's movies. He also did music in the recent Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Robertson, while Canadian, is part Mohawk, part Jew. Now there's a combination you don't see every day! I'm just sayin'.

Robertson made some solo disks after the break-up of the Band. Much of that work has elements of Native American music, including my selection - "Somewhere Down the Crazy River'.

It might not be such a surprise that Scorsese directed the video. Maybe his only music video helming. While simple in nature, the shadows and light are still kind of neat to me.

The vid also includes a number of other musicians - folks from the BoDeans, Daniel Lanois, Larry Klein and Maria McKee.

I apologize in advance if you're forced to sit through an ad. YouTube is becoming less fun this way.

I would have trouble finding male artists in my music collection too. Nice pick! Think you'll ever feature The Carpenters?

Like Leonard Cohen, this man should keep his mouth shut and stick to song writing. Just a godawful voice. I'd rather sit on a knife than hear this man sing.

I did not know about him until now. I enjoy learning about artists this way; it is the 'word of mouth' applied to the internet.
