Not That Funny

Dibert is dead.  Long not live Dilbert

You may or may not know (I did not) that Dilbert creator went off on a fucking racist rant and has been 86'd by our paper.

Effective immediately.

I've never thought higher of the Plain Dealer.  I mean, that's a sad statement, however true.

Adams was a douche with which to begin. Yes, being a science denying, election denying, faux voter fraud liar and MAGA fan and participant make you a douche. Being a racist is just part of their starter-package.

I'd say "it's science", but what good would that do?

One of Adams' rants was:  "the best advice I'd give to white people is to get the hell away from black people".

The Plain Dealer defended their move - which they said was not difficult - by addressing "cancel culture".  They said the paper is not a home for those who espouse racism and that they will not provide them financial support.

BINGO.

That won't stop people writing into the paper. And I so fucking hope they do, sign their name and get their letter printed exposing themselves as racists - or at very 'best' condoning racists and racism.

I also hope that every other paper drop the bastard. I mean, sure southern states won't.  You know.....racists. And yes, I'm generalizing, but no state in the north has a lynching museum. But it they want to get him where it hurts - Hallmark stores (and the likes) have to stop carrying mugs, calendars, cards, etc with the comic strip crew.

I was never a real fan of Dilbert. I get it's view of cube life, but it was fairly one-note. Honestly, save Bizarro and Speed Bump, I don't read any comics anymore.

So now, for the time being, there is a grey box where Adams strip used to reside. Good riddance.

Funny

I am wicked tired.  Gym. Running group. Work. It's been a lot.

I missed the green comet.  I skipped the State of the Union. Chinese spy balloon?  Nope.  So, I'm going with the subtitle of this blog........stuff & nonsense.

Loved this Bizarro. With this blog entry, it works on multiple levels.

 well.............maybe two.

Heroes

Look, don't get the other guy's Super Hero merch..........buy mine!

It is from 2009*, so in this day an age, it's considered 'vintage'.

I can NFT the fuck out of these, and my prices are HALF of what the other guys are going for. $49, and this can be yours!

For an additional $5, I'll even throw in the prototype.

In this version, I carry a brief case.

Here's the kicker - I won't try to sell you wine, steaks, higher education, vodka, bleach for drinking, horse dewormer or Greenland.   .......or a load of horseshit, which the others are quickly eating up.

Call now:  Operators are standing by!!!!

*in 2009, my facial hair was darker.

Crucfiy

I actually considered saving this for my xmas day post, but I think some of you might have that even that might be too over the line for me.

As if!

It totally explains why we've never really seen life from other planets / galaxies / solar systems here on this blue marble

Just because I laughed at the comic doesn't mean it is not 100% accurate. That might have been why I laughed, now that I think about it.

Call Me

I'm incredibly lazy today. Well, last night.  So you're getting something that made me laugh.

That can hold you for a day.

Walking the Dog

Yesterday, I got a text from Spo

He is apt to do this now and again, and out of the blue. Well, out of the blue for me. I've done it to him now and then, but he is much better at this kind of thing than I.  Random texts are fun and just nice. I do it to my cousins often - usually with hilarious results, or so it seems to me.

I should do it now and again to others. As long as it doesn't look like I'm stalking. Stupid digital footprint!

But the good Dr. electronically sent me an Oatmeal cartoon.

I sat in my office and laughed as I read it. I told him I would make this my blog port for tomorrow, which is today.

The super funny thing about this one, is that every single word of it is true.  Every. Single. One.

I'm glad Dr. Spo thought enough of me to send this. I shall have to return in kind......when he least suspects it.

Only the Lonely

My comic reading in the news paper has gone kaput.  Once Foxtrot and Boondocks went away (this was eons after Calvin and Hobbes went bye-bye), and Doonesbury was put on months and months of reruns, I limited my reading to Speed Bump and Bizarro.

Doonesbury came back, but I never picked it back up. Allegedly Boondocks is coming back. Even the new Bloom County I didn't bother with.

Way back when we lived in Columbus, on a lark, I read Apartment 3-G. It was hilariously stupid. I was never a Golden Girls fan (I know, the one gay guy who didn't care for it), but I remember a bit from it that made me laugh.

Dorothy:  "Apartment 3-G. I haven't read that for 30 years...."
Blanche:  "I'll catch you up...........it's later the same day......"

True that. Slowest moving storyline ever.

I was never a Mary Worth person. I'd say "because I'm not 50+", but I am. 710 reads it just out of habit, but he reads all the comics I think. So now and then, he'll read me a storyline - this last one being about and elderly person being taken for all her money because that's what happens to old people. I think she was catfished.

And so you know Mary Worth is for old people, she'll let you see for yourself......

Yes, apparently 1980's music now equals old-timers.   {sigh..... and.......well......fuck}.

In my heart of hearts, I know 80s is considered "oldies" to some generation. And not so deep down, I know people my age area allowed to move into the same independent living facility where my mother went last year. And sure, I'm 'falls risk', but I don't see myself as Mary Worth old.

....and for the record, the woman in question did find companionship with one of Mary's friends....

....and yes, this is older than the Motels, so, I feel slightly better.

Untitled

I have little blog time it seems. It's been budgets all the time at work.........plus my every day duties. Yesterday was just a Shep day. All day......all the time. But I got good shots for next Saturday.

So, I'm just leaving you with a cartoon.  I mean, why not?

Mercy Seat

Same-sex marriage nonchalantly comes to the funnies with a Speed Bump comic yesterday.

But it came to the Cleveland Plain Dealer

Remind me to look for the foot-stomping Letters to the Editor insisting that the comic be dropped over this one. Srsly.

G-d's Comic

Honestly, I have nothing.

I'll just post a comic from some strip called Free Range, which I've holding onto for a little while. It's a good a time to post it as any.

Catwoman

Well, this sucks.

Since I am on vacation, and could just as (not) easily write witty posts about Maine, drinking and friends - I really am happy to coast on the blog thingy and just post whatever, where I don't have to think that much.  Or at all.

So, I took four minutes (tops) to participate in BosGuy's quiz on what Superhero am I.

Apparently I'm a SuperheroINE.

Well.  Just. Fuck. Me.

As if I don't have enough self-esteem and body image issues - now I have this with which to deal.

First off, I did NOT have a tough childhood, I don't exploit others, I don't have long hair and all of the such - and told the quiz as much - TWICE.

Apparently the quiz was not listening.  Both times I came up as Catwoman.

Blast!

I don't know if Selina Kyle stole things or not - as I never read comics.  When I answered in the affirmative that I have, I'm thinking back to five finger discount items at Lawsons when I was a junior high lad in need of Skittles or Now N Laters, but low on cash.

Sure, I grew up watching Batman - with Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether and Ertha Kitt.  Then of course, Michelle Pfeiffer.

I didn't see - nor cared to - Oscar winner (coughcoughcough) Halle Barry in that role. Anne Hathaway didn't suck in her stint (ooooh, Mike is turning red at just the mention of her name - but more on him later).

So, now there is me......as Catwoman.  But without the skintight suit, or the back-end percentage deal of the box office receipts.

I suppose it could have been worse - I could have been Supergirl.....who falls somewhere between Sabrina, the Teen-aged Witch and.....Ritchie Rich / Caspar.

This would be something else to bring up to my shrink, if I had one.

Feel free to take your own quiz here.

Superman

It's just another one of those days / nights.  Little to discuss.

The red-eye wore me out, so did another full day of work after the flight. Though coming home to the family is always fun.

Poor Petey had to wake up just to see me, but he was seemingly thrilled.

So, why the Superman topic?

A permanent Superman display - albeit a cheesy one - resides in the baggage claim area of Cleveland Hopkins Airport.

Why there?  Who the fuck knows.

Cleveland gets a display because the creators of the character were from Cleveland.

There is audio with the display, but to be honest, I needed to get my luggage and shuttle more than I needed to hear about Superman's origin or see his packed crotch.

And what is up with that hair.  Yes, I know Clark Kent's alter ego had that, whatever you call it, hair thing going on, but this looks way bad.  Not bad-ass. Just bad.

The steroided-out body is not helping.  He is just as an unrealistic role model for boys as Barbie is for girls.

But I'm not a comic book guy. This almost unheard of in the gay blog world. I've never bought one, and I'm not sure I've ever read one. I never got the medium.  I don't begrudge those who are into them, but I don't know how it translates from 12 years old to 40-something.  Maybe the storylines are very intricate and deep.

I do know Spiderman in the daily paper is lame, but what can you do with three panels per day.  Mary Worth seems better. Of course, I always go with the Simpsons' Comic Book Guy with that one: "a very rare Mary Worth in which she has advised a friend to commit suicide."

That is a comic I can commit to.

Read My Lips

I'm being lazy today when it comes to a post.  I admit I had nothing planned and was going to wing it, but then decided I would read the newspaper first, while I did laundry and had breakfast.  Yes, I was multi-tasking, but kept thinking, "you know, you need to blog still........"

The Cleveland Plain Dealer is a quick read. It is for me. I completed the entire thing while 710 is still on page one of the New York Times.  Granted, I do not read everything the PD has to offer, which isn't much, in my opinion. But you're not looking at it as the official record of anything.

I leave the comics until last in the chain of paper reading. In our horrid supply of comics (really - BC? Funky Winkerbean?  Beetle Bailey???) , I read just two on Sunday:  Garfield Dilbert and Doonesbury.

Since I was a kid Doonesbury has rarely disappointed. Garry Trudeau is usually spot on, and would be hard to argue with regardless of your political stance. Sure, I'm sure many of his targets do argue his perspective, but it makes the no less true.

So today's comic made me smile.  I'm guessing the same cannot be said for Newt.

Funny Way

Yes, it's just a comic, but it's a Saturday and most of you people aren't reading me today. You've got lives. Which of course implies that I do not. That last part may or may not be true.

But I read the comics today and as usual, Bizarro made me smile. This one made me laugh.

I can barely stand to open the paper anymore, anymore if I get to it, the comics are one of the few things I'll read and even then it is like three of them. I'm not so much into Rex Morgan, M.D., Mark Trail or Marmaduke.

But who doesn't like a Mr. Peanut comic? Who?

Comic Books

I was never a reader of comic books. I do mean ever. I'm not sure I've ever read one. I know I've never owned or bought one. I guess I'm not your normal gay boy. Or normal blogger. There seem to be a lot of guys out there in Blogland who have devoted their forum to the comic book. I'm just not one of them. I'm just not that into it.

I have seen Batman and Spidermen on the big screen, but have successfully avoided things like X-Men, the Hulk, and that thing with blind Ben Affleck. It is just not my style.

But it is early early Monday and I have to be out of the house early. The blog post I was working on is not ready. Time got away from me.

Ruckiry (not Jon's boss) Moby provided me an excellent, and fairly easy post, so I don't interrupt my 70+ days of straight (ha!) blogging. He became a superhero - and so now I am one also.

Ok, I'm a superhero, but even in my geeky way. I'm about two steps below Mild Mannered Shoe-Shine Boy. Yes, I'm the Mighty Thoughtful Philanthropist......albeit one with incredible legs, arms and torso. I thought the alter-ego was supposed to be mild-mannered, not the hero portion. Can I not get anything right?

My mighty weapon is a shopping bag - only because a briefcase was not available as a choice. It is probably just filled with stuff from Whole Foods. ....because I'm that gay!

I've seen the Incredibles enough to know that Edna Mode says a superhero should never have a cape, as it will just end badly for the protagonist, but as it goes, I couldn't help but at least attempt putting one on. It looked better than wings - which were my other choice.

The tie, well, it was an obvious choice for me. My superpower? Probably the ability to use pivot tables in a single bound.

So, feel free - make yourself a superhero. You can thank Moby later.
