Medicine

Unbeknownst to me, I had a doctor's appointment scheduled for me for yesterday.

I found out about it last Friday when I went into MyChart to check in to my PT appointment. There I saw another visit for the following week (yesterday).

Deep down, I knew I was supposed to see my doc before the end of the year, but I also know I didn't schedule it. His office must have taken it upon themselves to schedule - unless I'm just losing my mind and forgot I did it.

I'm the patient who likes to make the most of a doc visit. I don't go and have them schedule my bloodwork, I know in advance and get it done beforehand so all the results are in - giving patient and provider something concrete to discuss.

It's a simple "trick" but one I find people marvel at once they hear it. It saves tons of time and speculation on "if this, then we'll x, y or z...". And chances of getting the follow-up message after the fact is like driving the car off the lot: the value goes down quickly.

Saturday morning I got my fasting bloodwork done. Before we started walking Shep at noon-ish, MyChart started pinging me with my lab values. Most good. A few iffy.

As "luck" would have it, my doc had a Fellow with him. I'm all for teaching the new docs what is what - but it's also a time suck. As they are doctors, they are also students in a way. So invariably, they are always behind. My 10:30 visit started 35 minutes later. The guy was thorough and I always give up info they don't ask because, I have been around the block, as it were.

Since this was not about my ortho stuff, I did mention the stress fracture. This eventually got around to some meds I am on that can be bad for the bones, so we switched my meds to one where that isn't a side effect. But that had to be chosen by one that didn't have any psych related side effects - as we didn't want to add on to the depression.

Still - had I not mentioned the fracture, they probably wouldn't have crawled through my records to find it and I might still be on a med that might not be working for me.

The doc did said, but the new med, has a tendency to make people gain weight. When I asked how much, he said "average is 3 kilos".  I had to remind him he was in America and we're not on the metric system.

So this med might make me gain weight. The upping of my antidepressant might make me gain weight. And I'm not running.

Perfect.

The backhoe will be lifting me out of the side of my house any day now.

I somewhat reluctantly got my flu shot, updated Covid vaccine and RSV. I'm not being RFK Jr / Jenny McCarthy about it all - I just care less and less.  But 710 cares, so that's why I got them.

My arm will be sore tomorrow (the RSV burned!) but hopefully that will be the only side effect. I got Pfizer for Covid, and that has provided the least amount of adverse reactions compared to Moderna.

Here's hoping.

If you gain weight, they have drugs for that. We trust you will watch what you eat and how much you move and NOT end up as a beached whale on the shore of lake Erie.
