My Music Monday

I'm not a huge college basketball fan, but I'm not above semi-stealing something from the NCAA theme of March Madness.

Let's just call the next few Mondays, March Sadness.

I thought I'd do just morose songs, but even that is subjective, no?

Maybe just sad-tinged songs.

Let's start off a new one from Nickel Creek.  They have their first album in nine years, which will be released in the near future.

The three members, who have been playing together since they were young teens, have branched out to solo careers and other bands, but now and then - mostly then - come back together to record and tour.

I'm liking today's selection, "Holding Pattern".  I'm assuming the record will sound like this, but the version below is clearly done live. I've never seen Sara Watkins plany anything but fiddle, so the guitar thing was new.  Poor Chris Thile has seemingly never found a comb that works, but it works for him.

I don't know the song is "sad", but it is sad-sounding, just by general harmonies. I'm looking forward to the album.

That was lovely. You used to make the best mix “tapes” for me with songs that verged on sad. Do you listen to James McMurtry? He’s an incredible writer.
