Girl You Know It's True

The "joke" is, the photo to your left is doctored, but you probably didn't even notice or question such a thing.

The actual "joke" is what this fucking White House (not the actual structure.....but kind of) has become.

I am surprised this just isn't the set for American Ninja Warrior, which btw, is far more entertaining than whatever this full-diaper wearing "president" has for us for the 250th b-day we are supposed to be having.

Was.

Almost everyone has bailed.

Almost.

Let's face it, Vanilla Ice is never going to have somewhere else to be and there wasn't a county fair who had yet requested is presence on or near the same day. And it might be his only paying gig this year.

"Milli Vanilli" (yes in quotes) is just the perfect metaphor for this administration: fake entertainers laughing all the way to the bank.

"They" are still on the bill.

The only difference is (kind of): Milli Vanilli got caught in the act and paid the price - which was to never inflict another album on us again......or whomever actually sang on it.

This administration has been caught several times for faking it and so far, to never been penalized.

It should be noted that, at least in theory, Vanilli is/was a German group. And nothing celebrates U.S. independence than fake German singers.

Correction: Singer.   Correction Correction: Lip syncer .

One of the guys in the group gets off easy: he's dead.    ......lucky bastard.

While yay (I guess) for the groups who have bailed. I have yet to have it trickle down to me as of why they 86'd the celebration - though you know......Occum's razor.  That said - they HAD to know for what they were signing up for in the first place. You can't tell me they didn't know the stigma attached to such an event with such a polarizing twat as BLOTUS.

And really, was C C + the Music Factory such a get in the first place? I mean, yeah - next to Vanilla Ice and Milli Vanilli.

There is nothing to celebrate this upcoming independence day. Unless BLOTUS continues the legacy of Jefferson and Adams - who both died on July 4th.

That, I'd celebrate.

House of Cards

"It's all so delicious"......as Tynnyfer* on Parks & Recreation would have said.

Now, I could be talking about Kevin Spacey or Mueller's indictments.......or both.

I need time to digest the FBI investigation shit - so I'll hold off on that.

I should take time to reflect on Spacey, but whatever......I'll do it now.

I've said before, and I've stuck with it: the man has always creeped me out. Even back when he was in a show called Wiseguy back in '88. I'm not 100% sure he was acting and nothing he's done in the last 30 years has made him any less, well.....creepy.

I loathe that the man is gay. I mean, I think everyone knew it.....he might have been the last to know. But it's like I don't really want him in the club, and not just for skeeving on 14 year old boys.

That is when he isn't skeeving with guys in a London park in the middle of the night, way back when.

Can we just start with his coming out: "choosing" to live as a gay man.

Kevin Spacey:  FUCK YOU.

I'm sure there is a pseudo-retraction coming about 'that being gay isn't a choice' statement, but just fuck you. Both you and the publicist who wrote your shit knows better. Or should. You're hacks. The man is just a walking penis with ears.

And the context in which he finally came out:  a child molestation claim.

I guess (?) kudos to Anthony Rapp for forcing the issue.....and to help get his name out there for his new Star Trek series (yes, I'm cynical enough to assume there are ulterior motives for this).  Oddly enough, I had to look him up.  I know Rapp from one thing:  Law & Order SVU.......where he plays a character who was molested by a teacher when he was a teen.

I'm sensing a pattern.

I joke about the molestation, but it's not funny.  What also is not funny is Spacey's three legged response. Yes, he apologized.............if it happened.  I guess that's more than anyone's getting from Harvey Weinstein.  But then Kev had to go blaming / explaining away via time and booze. Even Harvey didn't do that.

Maybe when you come on to some many teens, you do forget...............which one he was.

This Weinstein things has been great though - all bets are off for those stalking, creepy, werido motherfuckering perverted assholes.   .....and Kevin Spacey, you're one of 'em.

*her name was Jennifer, but she rebranded herself.

I Want Your Sex

I can't get very worked up over Harvey Weinstein and that whole situation. Who in their right mind didn't think (let alone, know) he was a pig. Just look at the guy.

Sure sure.......don't judge a man by his cover and all, but..........c'mon!

Honestly, I don't know how anyone forces oral sex ON you. I would have totally gotten it if Harvey coerced some would-be ingenue to go to her knees for him. But to force someone to take off their panties (assuming they had some one, of course) spread her legs and lay there while he went licking looking for fish tacos?

I guess it's how bad you want the job.

I even get Ashley Judd not speaking up at the time. I mean...........has she worked since that thing with Tommy Lee Jones chasing her?  The Female Fugitive.....or whatever it was called?  I totally get she could not squeal because she didn't know where her next meal was coming from.....and even if she did, chances are Wynonna was gonna scarf it down anyway.

Rose McGowen?  Has she worked since being Shannon Dougherty's (sp....clearly)'s replacement on some show about sister witches?  I mean, she sucked right.....just not in the way Harvey wanted her to. But his blocked sexual advances can't be all her problem not getting jobs.........there has to be a shred of talent, right?

What I have zero tolerance for is Angelina Jolie.  ...and not just because of two - count 'em two! - Lara Croft movies.

I get that the little people....the nobodies...didn't speak up about sexual harassment, but Jolie has...or had....some clout in Hollywood.  She is / was a frickin' ambassador to the UN who would happily inform the public on atrocities and sexual abuse of certain lands.

Just not La La Land.

She's part of the problem. Angie should and could have said something.........and she didn't. I guess it's only ok to speak up if it's female circumcision.

The same could be said for Gwenyth Paltrow, but............let's face it, she has less clout than Ashely Judd.  There. I said it.  Gwinnie was happy to take whatever Harvey dished out while he was buying her for an Oscar.  Now that there will never be a Shakespeare in Love II: Electric Boogaloo, (or probably any other movie that's not an Iron Man franchise) she can finally say something. Maybe she now has PHSD (the H is for Harvey), which is why she's a total fucking loon now.

I know a few news outlets are chastising the Clintons and Obamas for not making a statement.  ......about what?  So, Weinstein had fundraisers for them. Lots of scummy people have lots of fundraisers for lots of politicians. What kind of statement does one expect them to make? I'm guessing neither Hillary or Michelle were hit on by him. Are they supposed to have inside knowledge that he did do crap to women in the privacy of his office, hotel or hot tub? Until four days ago, the women hadn't said anything. Are the Obamas and Clintons supposed to return the money from previous campaign fundraisers?

Like Ailes and O'Reilly, old Harv is out of a job.....yet still rolling in cash. I'm sure he'll be fine....unlike some of the women he inflicted himself on.

And let us not forget Terry Crews, who also says he was harassed and groped by a Hollywood exec.

....but let's face it......he was asking for it.  Just look how he dresses.

Into the Night

Last night we went to see a play with friends.

To be fair, they asked if we'd be interested in seeing one and I believe we answered without asking the play. I suppose we go lucky that it wasn't something that sounds disastrous, like Legally Blonde: the musical, but it might have been just as depressing on another level.

'night Mother was the play. An "up" piece about a daughter telling her mother she's planning on ending her life before morning.

In my email group, Becky said she hoped Sissy Spacek (who actually was in the film version) or Kathy Bates would be in it.  I told everyone it was Goldie Hawn...........as the daughter.

You'd have thought that response would have gotten even a lower case 'ror', but it was like crickets and tumbleweeds all at the same time.  Nothing.

I must be losing my touch.

While most of those actresses probably have a multitude of free time, chances are they're not hurting so much that they're doing a local production at the Beck Center.

I'd like to think that Cleveland has a vibrant regional theater scene, but perhaps not. We have seen only three plays at the Beck and all three have "starred" one woman. It cant' be coincidence.

Maybe she runs the place and casts herself in everything. I don't know.

I have not seen the movie, but I'm guessing Ann Bancroft and Spacek would be better. The mom was good - and to a point so was the daughter, but for the first two-thirds, I was distracted by what can only be described as her Forrest Gump vocal delivery. It was so frickin' annoying.

There was little reason (for me) to care this chick was contemplating suicide. If the playwright conveyed it in print, the actor and director didn't pull off a logical explanation, but maybe that's the point, maybe there is none.

I was taken more by the mother's lament of her being left behind at an old age and how it would be for her to die later. Honestly, to me, that is where the true emotional punch came from.

There were no song and dance numbers - not that those would have necessarily made the play better (or worse).

We went. I had a grown-up theater experience - like it or not.

Of course, we could barely get up our driveway thanks to 7-8" of new snow (!!!!!) that was wet and heavy. We probably lost some evergreens due to the weight of the snow.

I. am. over. this.

Luck of the Draw

Last night we went to a showing of some American Institute of Architects.

I know, it sounds........different.

Most architects don't really draw anymore and do CAD stuff via computers.  These are olden times drawing guys.  One of them lives in our 'hood, which is actually the reason we went.

The showing was in an old church, which some woman purchased for almost nothing (well, relatively) and uses it to showings, have receptions, etc.

As you can see, it has nice design elements, which made it perfect for an event like this one specifically.

While this picture doesn't really show it, the night was well attended and it was an open bar!  Generally that is no big deal, but I'd barely eaten anything in 24+ hours (damned red eye) and had two glasses of wine.  What a lightweight I've become.

Actually, the venue was better than some of the drawings. I went in expecting more true architectural renderings but saw more paintings of landscapes or cityscapes but nothing that would look like the beginnings of a building.

Still it was something different that we don't normally do.

I'm thinking it's a movie weekend....so hopefully there's something out there decent. I'm thinking Argo, but we'll see.

A Singer Must Die

I told Denton I wasn't going to blog about it, but he talked me into it - well....a little.

We did our usual summer Friday night date-night at the Grotto and were greeted by this douchebag. Mike Someone-or-other. Worst. Hired. Talent. Ever.

Normally they do not have "talent", let alone outside. First, he was way too loud. And he was wayyyy too bad. A career-lethal combo, if you axe me. ...and I guess there really is no second. First says it all.

Of course there was his choice of music: all mid-70s. A few Elton John, and Eagles number and lest we forget Pink Floyd. Yes - Pink Floyd. He also did a version of Journey's "Faithfully" that made Finn from 'Glee' sound passable.

I loved how was off by a few keys on any number of songs, where he had to shift both hands to make things not so flat. Unfortunately he didn't have that kind of talent to do the same maneuver with his voice. HORRID.

There were times in mid-word (not even mid-line) he had to change keys octaves. Total octaves. He was beyond bad. And seriously loud. I couldn't hear Denton at all, or Angela, our waitress - whom I complained to about the hired help.

She knew it was bad and so did the management. Too little; too late. Angela tried to compare him to Steve Buescmi in the Wedding Singer. But she added, "though he's not funny".

Laughable, I thought - but no, not funny.
