My Music Monday

Yeah - I know there are political issues to be addressed here, but A) it's too new to sift through just yet B) I don't wanna  C) this will all still be here tomorrow  D) it's Monday.

Let's just stick with tradition and go with music.

Orville Peck has a new disk out - or coming out soon.

He also has a new "single" from it that has been out for a month. It's a duet with Kylie Minogue and has the Diplo the DJ.

Yeah, I'm gay, and I am familiar with some Minogue songs - nothing by heart - but I understand her place in homo culture. His too, though Peck is still making his mark.

"Midnight Ride" had the potential to be a great song.

The tune itself is great. Peck's vocals are there in his Johnny Cash-esque way (along with a few other baritone legends).  But overall, the song fails to hit it's potential.

1. Minogue.  She went from full(er) vocal ("Locomotion") to a more breathy delivery ("Can't Get You Out of My Head"). The problem with "Midnight Ride" is it's her breathiest vocal yet. Even in the mix it's just light.  Any lighter and it would be non-existent.

2. The song shorts the listener on verses. While it is 3:31 in length, there ends up being a lot more talking than there needs to be and not enough singing or an additional verse to flesh it all out.

I will agree than in the chorus when Peck and Kylie team up, it works better than letter her sing on her own.

The structure of the singing parts is there, just not expertly executed.

So glad to see you featuring Orville Peck. I'm seeing him in concert for the fourth time on August 6th. His live shows are amazing.
