My Music Monday

There is a lot of new music out there. I mean, there always is, but I am showing my age - I look through new releases and recognize less and less names. There used to be a time I knew the names and knew the music was, or wasn't, for me - or at the very least "knew of" the artist. Those days seem to be gone now.

iTunes will have dozens of new releases on Fridays and I look at them all and I know less and less. And even the ones I know appeal to me less and less. Just say, "ok, grandpa".  It seems I'm behind "Daaaaad!".

So the new music of which I speak are artists I know and enjoy. The last few years, for me, have been sparse on releases I've wanted to hear. And now there is a bolus of them here or soon to be here.

Today it is the Counting Crows. Next to the Pretenders, they might have one of the best debut albums ever to be released. It is nearly perfect and has aged well over the last 32 years. But they have a new disk due in May, and a new song "Spaceman in Tulsa".

I'm loving the energy of the song. The pace. The cadence. The musicianship. And Adam Duritz' unchanged voice. And not be ageist or comparative, he's aged well into his 61 year old self. He looks interesting and more expressive than in the past, as if he's almost being ok with "a motherfucking rock and roll star".

This one goes on my running playlist.
