I'll be honest, I have their first three albums but have only sampled their last three. But those first three disks are just superb. Well.........you know, if you like lyrics that tend to be bleak or grim. Not completely, but it tends to be on the down side when it comes to the words.
Me? I like that.
I found The The through Jeff R, a guy I briefly saw. It was the one good thing to come out of that "relationship". I lost two books to him. He lost some time in jail, I've been told.
Though, I remember saying what I thought was THE funniest thing ever at one of his dinner parties and just laughing and laughing only to find everyone just staring at me. I also remember telling my friend Jon the next morning and he roared. And for the life of me, me who remembers everything, cannot remember the comment. Nor does Jon. It's infuriating all this time. I "may" have been drunk.
I went out and purchased their (many a time it is only Matt Johnson on any of their songs) first two disks right when I first heard of them. They would be part of what Jon used to (still?) called my "good, but down" music phase. It's been 35+ years. I don't think it's a phase.
But Johnson/the band has a new disk coming out, Ensoulment. It might actually be out.
"Lonely Planet", today's selection, is the second release from the album. The first, "Linoleum Smooth To The Stockinged Foot", is less singing / music and more spoken work / background sounds. I am 99.56% sure that no one where would sit through it. But "Lonely Planet" is good.
I'm looking forward to hearing the new disk in its entirety.
