I think had I been smarter - a lot smarter - I would have loved to be an astronomer. Yet math wasn't really my strong suit.......and you need a lot of it for that job.
My math skills - at the time - probably kept me from a lot of career options. Obviously, I'm smart enough to have been able to handle tens of millions of dollars for the healthcare areas for which I worked - just not smart enough to calculate things in metric.
However Climate.us is up and running.
This is a big deal. Truly.
BLOTUS and DOGE fired all the scientists who worked on and ran the government climate website. Then they they shut down climate.gov.
Men so scared of science, this is to which they resorted. If Musk hates science so much, maybe the folks who work for him at SpaceX should step back. Or maybe he should. And let's be honest, BLOTUS doesn't understand science.
So the folks who ran the .gov site rebuilt it (!!!!), create contents and run the .us site. With their own money. The below synopsis says it better than I.
When the federal climate.gov website was shut down and hundreds of researchers were laid off, a dedicated team of former National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) employees refused to let decades of public science vanish.
Led by Rebecca Lindsey, the former program director of the original government site, these scientists launched a monumental counter-effort. Rallying over 80 volunteer researchers, the team successfully launched climate.us, a new, independent website that painstakingly recataloged and restored more than a thousand vital climate reports and datasets previously hidden from public view.
This grassroots resurrection was made possible by a powerful mix of public solidarity and collective action. Nearly 2,500 small-scale donors crowdsourced $250,000—covering one-third of the operational budget—to safeguard critical environmental data.
Climate scientists have lauded the project for helping everyday citizens connect global climate patterns directly to their local communities.
By bypassing political interference, these scientists have established a protected, permanent refuge for the public data necessary to understand and combat our changing world.
If BLOTUS could actually read, I'm sure he'd be PISSED.
I'm not asking anyone to donate to the site, but visit it. Let's get their numbers up. Give them exposure so real money is investing in them. Grassroots is great, but to get some big donors would be great.
I won't pretend to know all this site does and can do, because..........well........smarts. Still it seems some of the reports and data aren't all for the Ph.D reading crowd.
Just another group of people metaphorically flipping the bird to BLOTUS.
....and I couldn't be happier.
