Yesterday's 'oh fuck' just didn't end up costing me a few thousand dollars...........not that I really would have minded forking it over. .....and you know I don't part with $$$ easily or willingly.
In my pea brain, I figured my chances with London were doubled this year. I mean, it's not quite how statistics works, but to a non-statistician, it sounds like it.
London is doing double duty in 2027.
TWO MARATHONS.
One on Saturday. One on Sunday. Each with 50,000 runners.
So you can see where I thought my chances doubled.
That said there were 1.33 millions people who applied for less than those 100,000 slots. Other people got in with qualifying by time or via raising money for charity. That is first part is never happening for Blobby. It's lottery, charity or buy my way in via a tour group.
I should point out - for whatever reason - London is saying the Double Marathon is for 2027 only.
....or maybe it is a test balloon to see if they can pull it off from here on out. It would be a money maker for the city - though the city would kind of have to truly shut streets for twice the amount of time.
In a way I'm glad I didn't get in. Battling 49,999 others for a hotel room seems daunting. Add another 50,000 to it seems difficult at best.
This declination 86s me out of seeing Brett - and any other UKers who read me - in the upcoming year. And while we loved London, the idea would have been to be there for the race and then leave for Scotland and Wales. Those will have to be postponed, I'm afraid.
All said, it would have been wild to knock two majors off in a year. Two international ones at that. Alas, it is not to be. At least not this year. And by 'this', I mean 'next'. Or at least for London.
I guess I can now throw my name in the Order of the Phoenix for Tokyo. Maybe I still can get two majors in a year.
I shan't be holding my breath.
