PMS

Last night, on our weekly Zoom / Happy Hour call we went over our hour time limit.  I think no one but Morty went over the two drink number, but hard to say. Had I not had to walk down two flights have stairs, I might have had another.

BTW, we switched to Saturday nights, because Sunday nights backed us up to a school day.

During these calls we discuss many things - and we've known each other so long, no topic is off limits. I mean, yesterday some of it was about vaccines, fashion schools, our mutual dislike for Billy Joel and power bottoms. Not necessarily in that order.

I was going to tell you how the topic of the video below came up, but you know, I'll forgo that.

The video is from David Letterman's first David Letterman's Film Festival (I think he only ended up having two). A series of artists made a 5-10 minute 'film' - one being Bette Milder, one Diane Sawyer and the one below by Catherine O'Hara and Andrea Martin.

The film's title?  PMS.

I have a feeling I featured it in the blog before, but I'm honestly that lazy to not go check. And if it turns I did, then I got nothing for today. And in reality, none of you remember in the first place, and in second, I'm pretty sure I have a few new readers who haven't read 5,922 posts.

Enjoy the film.

btw.........the guy playing Andrea Martin's husband is actually Catherine O'Hara's brother.  Fun fact.

(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

We have a houseguest this weekend. Well, more than one. But I'm speaking here of one in particular.

And if this doesn't sum up how the weekend will go, I'm not sure what will.

Having four sisters, I know all about the salty and sweet, boozy and napkin-y attributes that make up this time of the month. You just have to know how to off-set the loony times.

The David Letterman Film Festival entry, PMS, said, "alcohol helps takes the edge off". I know it does for somethings, but I cannot truly confirm or deny the PMS attribute. Ladies, any thoughts on this?

But to start off our weekend, which kind of began Thursday, we went out to the Grotto, where I am still the number one customer. It was a nice time with some wine and beer and food, of course.

It's a bummer I have to work today, but two of the gang can have fun while I toil away and then others will join later in the day.

PMS

Way back when, David Letterman had two consecutive annual celebrity film festivals. I remember the second (and ultimately last one) being fairly lame. But the first one, had two great shorts. One was with Bette Midler (and actually, her sit-down intro w/Dave was even funnier than her film).

But the other film was a joint venture from SCTV alum, Catherine O'Hara and Andrea Martin. I was a huge SCTV fan, but I'm guessing that in 1987 (?), still not a lot of people knew who either of these hilarious actors were. Thanks to YouTube, I'll grace you w/their film on PMS - Prementrual Syndrome

Shopping with Blobby

Yet another installment in the drudgery that is everyday shopping. The camera-phone makes it a bit more fun - though I get looks whenever I take pics of products. Like I care what people think!

Yes, I know I normally do a "funny" post when it comes to shopping, but not this time.  Well, this might be humourous, but I have come not to bury Angie's Classic Sweet & Salty Kettlecorn, but to praise it.

My mother had it at her house last Sunday.  If you've been to Costco, you understand the folks who hawk their products to the unsuspecting and hungry public.  My mother was one of these.

Now, I'm not even sure she likes popcorn, let alone flavoured kind.  But she put a bowl of it out for "the kids" before dinner.

Turns out, for me, that was a BIG mistake.

In recent memory, I cannot think of a similar food addiction I might have faced - let alone an instant one.  I ate pretty much the entire bowl on my own.  And half a second one, before my brother-in-law showed up and barged in on my territory (though he wasn't as enamoured of it as I).

It's the wrong (and right) comparison to say it's like chocolate covered pretzels.  The sweet.  The salty.  It's just one of those types of things I assume women crave during PMS.

I knew it was a mistake before we left to allow my mother to fill up a gallon sized ziplock bag full of it for me.  I ate the entire bag (save 17 pieces left as to not look piggy) at lunch the next day.  Not for lunch, but at lunch.

710 came home and said, "this is what you left me??"  I had to joke and say, "I was saving that for me, for later."

It was quite sad.

However, it was not as sad as going to Costco yesterday when I really didn't need anything from there, but figured since I was there, I'd pick some up.

Two bags.  I put the third one back, because I'm nothing if not the model of restraint.

Actually, I am.  12 hours later and I haven't even opened a bag.  But you're talking to a guy who bought  a case of Girl Scout Cookies in March and I've only opened three boxes.  My problem, besides eating everything at once, is once I know I open something, it's gone - possibly forever.  So I just sit on it.

The joke is, I know next time I'm over at my parent's house my mother will have secured me a bag without my asking.  I don't want to be rude, so of course I'll take it home.

Waste a Little Time on Me

Sorry to do this to you, in a way. As I said, I have a houseful of guests and not a lot of time to draft a good post between eating, drinking, talking, drinking, Spinning and, well.....drinking. My days are very full.

But yesterday I mentioned the David Letterman Film Festival. The man had two of them, that I remember and they were like 20+ years ago. But the PMS film I referenced yesterday was still my favouritest short film they did.

This was the second. Angst on a Shoestring, starring Bette Midler.

It's a shame the intro interview to the film wasn't included. Letterman and Midler were quite funny as I recall. And I have great recall. Somewhere in this house we also have the VHS (yes, VHS! - not that we have anything to play it on) with the entire Letterman episode on it.

I'll try to fill you in about the weekend in another post. But I gotta eat a little something before I take Morty spinning......and then drinking.
