I found a few from which to choose, so I've saved another one for next year - should I remember I saved it at all.
No theme for January, so it'll just be whatever pops to mind - or iTunes Roulette.
But for the first one of 2026 it's a newer song, "Metal" by the Beths. It was released sometime in 2025.
I don't know much about the Beths outside of them being from New Zealand. I hear them now and then and always want to like them better, but I know some music hits different at different times and most new music comes to me in the car. Depending on my mood or other people's driving (in)ability, music might end up with a bad connotation.
That said, I've heard "Metal" once. That's it. This will be the second time, but it captured me enough the first time I heard it that it went over with a positive vibe. Someone told me Obama put this song on his list of one of the best songs of 2025.
The music is light - in a good way - and the band has tight playing and good harmonies. I'll sample some of their other stuff.
