Mayor of Simpleton

Where I live, we have our first elected mayor.

Before he, it was pretty much an appointed and mostly ceremonial position. But in 2021 Kahlil Seren was one of many who ran for the office.

I supported, campaigned and voted for him, as did many.

We were fools.

He was young. Is. A go-getter. And it all started off ok.

.....and then it didn't.

It's been more like MacBeth, but without the catchy dialogue. Or murders.  .....that we know of.

The mayor's wife - unelected to anything - has inserted herself in just about everything. Crashing meetings. Questioning budgets. Employee intimidation. Making anti-trans and antisemitic comments in writing and on tape.

Oh, and was indicted on trespassing on private property.

Two city managers quit over her.......and of the mayor's non-response to her behaviour. One not lasting 90 days. Others city hall employees have quit under duress. A few filing lawsuits.

Seren, being the dutiful husband and shitty civil servant that he is, not only doubled down on defending his wife, but then went triple and quadruple.

There was no or little "I'll look into it" or "that doesn't sound right" or "you're right, my wife shouldn't be here in the office."

First off, he called her the 'first lady'.  It's fucking Cleveland Hts. .....and she's no lady.

He's no saint either. He has been accused of sneaking in after hours to hide a laptop to secretly record the investigation into his wife!  He has purposefully misled residents about the investigation - using his email with many city residents on the cc. I've got 'em all.

And my fave: he told city council - and I quote - "I am not your negro", after not showing up to the office for days on end.

He is right. He's our 'South Asian'!

There was a petition to recall Seren. He was to be presented with this at a city council meeting, but now he won't show to said meeting, so he can't be served. Mature.  He also tried to veto the recall election, but the city law dude(tte) wouldn't allow it.

So now it goes to the polls in September.

While it seems silly, as even if recalled, he only had 3-4 months left on his term, but he's clearly doing damage and why give him another 90-120 days to do it. And you know he'd be retributive.

Oh.Yes. One term. He could not get 342 (!) signatures to get him on the ballot. There are 44,000+ residents of our little burb. Sure, not all adults.....but still.  Even I think I could get 342 people to sign my petition.   .....and I'm, me!

I seriously don't know what he's gonna do when he's out of office. I mean, one Gooooooogle search and who the fuck is ever gonna hire him? Or his wife.
