We watched Almodóvar's short - and I mean short - film Strange Way of Life. The movie is 31 minutes long. Or short, as the case may be.
Oh, Ethan Hawke is also in the movie.
Since it is Almodóvar, the visuals are pretty good.
The story is ok. I mean, it is good, but the length of the movie kind of works against it.
I think the chemistry between Hawke and Pascal works. Hawkes sotto voce seems a bit stereotypical of sheriff almost any western.
Both leads perform well, but this isn't Brokeback Mountain exactly, but I can see where it's deemed Brokeback adjacent. Two would-be gay cowboys who couldn't quite find a way to navigate life together and do separately.
Since the film is so short, I can't say more than that without really giving away the entire plot.
It's on Netflix (for now) but it seems like it's streaming on other services. It's worth it.
